Will most resorts in Mexico supply a crib for young children?

Question:

Hello! We are looking at going to an all inclusive in Mexico soon. We would be travelling with a 2.5 year old and 6 month old. Will most resorts supply a crib? I’m very nervous for the sleeping arrangements. My kids are used to their own blackout rooms which I know is near impossible at a resort. Do parents just hang out in the room once the kids go to sleep? Do we need to bring car seats for the bus transport to the hotel? If you have any family friendly resort recommendations (either side of Mexico but will be using westjet credits) or if you’d like to share your experience or tips, I would love to hear it! Thank you!

We just stayed at the iberostar lindo and it was great for kids. And they also have two bedroom suites, and provide cribs and cots. And no to the car seat.

We travel with slumber pods and they are the best thing in the world for kids who sleep best in a blackout environment

Caron very interesting! I haven’t heard of them. Are they breathable? Are they lightweight to put in luggage?

Profile picture of Caron

Caron

Janessa they are the most amazing little inventions. They are breathable but they also have a pocket for a fan at the bottom. They are basically a pop-up tent that fits over a travel bed. They fit very easily in a carry-on, it's just the material and two tent poles.

We stayed at the Sandos Playacar beach resort who supplied playpens
Great family section at resort
Family rooms also have bunk beds with King bed for parents
Thé transportation said to bring car seats for kids under 2 but they just put the seats with the luggage!!
I wouldn’t bother bringing them if you aren’t going to go elsewhere in a car
Bring containers or ziplock bags to bring food back to room from buffet
Have hand sanitizer to use after handling utensils that others touch before eating
Bring dish soap if bringing reusable water bottles for kids
Flashlights are a good idea to use in room once kids are asleep
You are pretty much stuck in room unless u are travelling with another group, then bring baby monitor to visit if room is close by
Bring your own crib sheet for playpen
Hope this helps

The Royalton Riveria Cancun was very kid friendly with a huge splash park and little waterslides! I saw lots of families that had swim out rooms that were enjoying the sun with baby monitors while the little ones slept in the room. Our curtains were complete black out.

This was only a small part of it. We had kids come for our wedding and they all had a blast. When we can travel a little easier we will definitely take our kids there!

Brandy that is amazing!! Our kiddos would have a blast here and I love the swim out room idea!

When our kiddos were small, we'd request a ground floor room. This meant that our patio became quite large and allowed us to chat with others walking by and gave us easy access to the bar for one.of us to fetch drinks. We also took compact board games or a deck of cards with us. We loved these times together and still talk about them, years later. Once in a while, we'd keep our kids up late and they still talk about those times! I hope you all really enjoy yourselves even though, maybe particularly because, things may look quite different than they do at home.

Hey there! We've travelled with our 2 year old and 7 month old. Airlines are amazing with everything that you can bring for the kids! I brought a pack and play but most resorts will supply a crib and we've also travelled with the kids travel cribs. We have the Phil and Ted Al options are good just depends what you want to pack. We've brought full strollers with the car seats or a chariot or a wagon. The car hire companies will supply car seats but they're usually not great.
I suggest getting a 1 bedroom that the kids can sleep in. Black out curtains are pretty standard.

Janessa

Lindsey that’s true! I forgot that we would be able to bring our own pack and play. Thank you!

Janessa honestly the amount of stuff they allow for kids is crazy! And if you have "kid stuff" in your normal bags it also counts as the fee bags

If you travel with westjet vacations you do need a car seat for transport! Thank youse a company with vans not buses for transport

Profile picture of Janessa

Janessa

Laura good to know! Is this everywhere or only certain locations?

Profile picture of Laura

Laura

Janessa I believe all locations. You can also upgrade transportation to private, or just all those going to your same resort so there’s not a lot of stops! We upgraded to shared transport with anyone going to our resort with westjet vacations.

We have Barcelo booked for March and I’m on the fence about whether we’re going to go or not I’m worried about the virus and getting a positive test down there!!
In the past we’ve stayed at Moon Palace which is amazing but very expensive.

While it’s been a long time since our kids were young, we stayed at all inclusive in Mex a lot. And we often hired a babysitter from the hotel if we wanted to have dinner on our own (in the hotel). It worked out really well. The babysitters are/were vetted by the hotel. Often staff members looking for extra cash.

Sheila I did not know this was a thing! Thank you!!

You certainly do not leave children/babies in the room by themselves!!

Joyce some resorts have babysitting services i don’t think they would leave their children alone

We just went to Puerto Vallarta with our 9 month old in November! We didn’t worry about bringing a car seat. We put her crib in the bathroom so it was black out, and then hung out in the room and on the patio for naps and sleep! This was the Riu Palace Pacifico. They were great with her! Stroller friendly and they had sanitized high chairs everywhere.

Barcelo in manzanillo! Hands down best hotel for young families....small resort so easy for lil legs and hauling baby and being able to race back and forth to room for naps etc...they also play kids movies during supper on big screen so you can enjoy your meal
Just get a room with a nice patio so you can enjoy some cocktails and cards in evening after kids go to bed:) Incredible beach for young ones and pool! Also some great lil 1/2 day or full day trips off site

I hated all inclusives with little kids for the very reason you state. I much preferred condos then and now. My kids didn’t sleep well in the hotel room style of all inclusive and having three meals a day in a restaurant wasn’t fun.

Dreams Playa Mujeres is an excellent family resort. Has its own kiddie pool. Most resorts will supply a crib… but make sure you make the request at the time of booking… they usually have limited supply

We have travelled quite a bit with little ones. We always brought strollers that laid down really well. Put a towel over top at nap time and roll them to sleep. It became their portable safe spaces and bonus we got some freedom!

Family-Friendly All-Inclusive Resorts in Mexico: Tips and Recommendations

Going on a vacation with young children can be an exciting yet daunting experience, especially when it comes to ensuring their comfort and well-being. Fortunately, many all-inclusive resorts in Mexico are family-friendly and cater to the needs of parents traveling with little ones.

Cribs and Sleeping Arrangements

Most reputable resorts in Mexico provide cribs or pack-and-play options for infants and toddlers upon request. It's always a good idea to inquire about this when making your reservation to ensure availability. As for sleeping arrangements, many resorts offer family suites or adjoining rooms to accommodate families comfortably.

While it may be challenging to replicate the blackout conditions of their home environment, you can bring along portable blackout curtains or shades to help create a darker sleeping space. Additionally, consider bringing familiar items like a sound machine or nightlight to help your children feel more at ease.

Activities and Entertainment

Many all-inclusive resorts in Mexico offer various activities and entertainment tailored specifically for families with young children. These may include kids' clubs, supervised play areas, pools designed for little ones, and daily age-appropriate programs or activities.

Regarding your question about staying in the room once the kids go to sleep, it's a personal preference. Some parents choose to take advantage of the resort's evening entertainment or dining options by arranging for a resort-approved babysitter. Others prefer to stay in the room and enjoy some quiet time while their children sleep.

Transportation and Car Seats

Most resorts provide complimentary airport transfers, and it's generally recommended to bring car seats for the bus or shuttle transportation. Check with your resort regarding their policies and safety requirements for child car seats during transfers.

Family-Friendly Resort Recommendations

  • Dreams Resorts & Spas: This chain has several family-friendly properties located in popular destinations like Cancun, Riviera Maya, and Cabo San Lucas. They offer kids' clubs, water parks, and activities tailored for different age groups.
  • Beaches Resorts: Known for their family-friendly atmosphere, Beaches Resorts have locations in Negril and Ocho Rios, Jamaica, as well as Turks and Caicos. They feature activities like Xbox lounges, kids' camps, and even a Sesame Street® character experience.
  • Grand Velas Resorts: These luxury all-inclusive resorts in Riviera Maya and Riviera Nayarit offer family-friendly amenities like kids' clubs, babysitting services, and special children's menus.

Remember, every family's needs and preferences are different, so it's essential to research and choose a resort that aligns with your priorities and budget. Don't hesitate to reach out to resorts directly with any specific questions or concerns you may have.

Wishing you a wonderful and memorable family vacation in Mexico!
