Vegetarian Delights in Tokyo: Where to Find the Best Plant-Based Eats

Question:

Hi, I will be traveling to Japan with my mother ( Haneda) and would love to know what to see, do, and explore during my 1-week stay from Mar 11.
It has always been part of my bucket list to visit Japan and could fit into my multi-trip this time.
Any recommendation on vegan/ vegetarian options would be great along with any airbnb references.
Thank you so much!

I would get a JR East train pass. And go to Kamakura, Nikko, and Gala Yuzawa (if you ski) or MT fuji if you don't.. I would also do a bike tour of Tokyo on one of your first days to get your bearings.

with the price increase of JR passes it’s not worth it. Kamakura day trip from Tokyo round trip is $20 CAD ish. Nikko similar just a heads up!!

What would be ideal to do and see in Tokyo as I will be landing at 6 am at the Haneda airport?

Anonymou train to Tokyo is about an hour and a bit from Haneda. Stop in Yokohama if you don’t have much luggage or store if at the station and check out Chinatown and the red brick wearhouse area/garden

1 week is quite short. I personally love Osaka and Nara, but you probably won't have time for that. I was recently researching Kawagoe, specifically a part of it called "Little Edo" (Coedo) that looks really neat and is a short trip from Tokyo. It's an area full of 19th century shops and has a really neat looking atmosphere.

Aaron would like to ask if JR pass will cover Tokyo, Osaka, Edo, Nara, and all those famous places ? And how much is it for and if it is worth it?

Sorry, but I can't say. I haven't done Tokyo yet, just passed through. Only been to Osaka/Kyoto/Nara so far...never bought rail passes.

We spent a week in Japan and only managed to do Tokyo and Kyoto. Tokyo is a huge city with lots to do. I wanted to go to Hiroshima but couldn't fit it in the schedule.

Tokyo Itinerary for Vegans/Vegetarians

I'm so excited to hear that you're traveling to Japan! I've been to Tokyo several times, and it's one of my favorite cities in the world. There's so much to see and do, and the food is amazing.

Since you're interested in vegan and vegetarian options, I've put together a list of some of my favorite restaurants in Tokyo. I've also included some Airbnb references, in case you're looking for a place to stay.

Restaurants

  • T's Tan Tan (vegan ramen)
  • Loving Hut (vegan Vietnamese food)
  • Ain Soph. Journey (vegetarian and vegan macrobiotic food)
  • Nanohana (vegetarian teishoku (set menu) restaurant)
  • Hare Krishna Temple Tokyo (vegetarian and vegan Indian food)

Airbnbs

Things to See and Do

  • Visit the Senso-ji temple, Tokyo's oldest temple.
  • Take a walk through the Imperial Palace Gardens.
  • Visit the Tokyo National Museum to learn about Japanese history and culture.
  • Go shopping in the Ginza district.
  • Take a day trip to Hakone, a beautiful mountain resort town.

Tips

  • Purchase a Japan Rail Pass if you plan on traveling extensively by train.
  • Learn a few basic Japanese phrases.
  • Be prepared for a lot of walking.
  • Tokyo is a very safe city, but be aware of your surroundings.

I hope this itinerary helps you plan your trip to Tokyo! I'm sure you'll have an amazing time.
