Advice on airport arrival times for domestic flights? I have a 6:30am takeoff time on Thursday and the earliest the SkyTrain can get me to YVR is 5:22am. I'm good, right?

Absolutely 5:22am is good. I do it ALL the time and always check a bag too. Never even close to a problem

they are just opening the counters then, you are just fine

Who needs counters. You check in online the day before and head through to security. Take carry on

right, not everyone takes only carry on, but by far the best option

personally I like to see people working and not machines, never use the fast person free check outs in the grocery either, but lots of folks don't need jobs

Self serve check outs in many stores are the future as people don't want the jobs actually

As long as you've checked in and not checking baggage, maybe!!

It's security that can take time. Also, depends on the airline. Some insist on more time.

I check in on line night before mostly for international fights and walk though the airport doors an hour before and head straight through security. Always

What about luggage. Don't u have to be there earlier for luggage?

Carry on to Europe?

I only fly short haul south. Can't be in a plane for more than 5/6 hours. If it was summer though yes I can do a carry on easy. It hold tons of stuff

What station are you taking the Canada line to YVR from? If it is Waterfront, be sure to use the Granville street entrance of Waterfront Canada line. This is because the main lobby of Waterfront station at 601 West Cordova is often still locked when the Canada line starts. The entrance you need is on Granville and Hastings, South West corner. Safe travels!

I agree with Kathy, ever heard of skytrain breaking down?? I have, and people stuck!!!
Personally, I think u r cutting it close!!
Do yourself a fav and book a cab, $35ish from downtown!!
Good luck!!!

You should be OK with 1 hour but I also agree with above and would not recommend it. I had only carry on from YVR to Hamilton (still here) & live only 7km from YVR but allowed more time. I do not think the airlines are responsible for missed flights,. Good Luck!!

If you are delayed through security or get lost or in an accident the airlines don't care.

to release the stress of uncertainty I'd get a cab, it would be well worth it!

I would highly recommend getting there for 4:30am for your 6:30 flight. YVR Airport security can sometimes take up to two hours - especially with it being summer time. I know that there aren't enough screening officers always on hand so the wait can be longer depending on that. It's better to be safe than sorry. Unless you have Nexus. If you have Nexus then 5 am is ok

I agree - take a cab

Boarding time is 20 minutes before flight. I got to airport today and it wasn't busy and when I left for my 7 am flight it wasn't either. But I left the house at 4am got there in 30 mins from waterfront. If u leave at 5:22am ur cutting it close there's a skytrain before that for Cambie because I got in at 4:50Am(actually 5am) from vancity (they started late)and got there 530. Security took 15mins. I was international flight to Dallas

YOU HAVE TO CHECK IN 45 mins minimum before a domestic flight or they can give your seat away. So check in online prior to heading to the airport...

Airport Arrival Times for Domestic Flights

When it comes to airport arrival times for domestic flights, it's always better to be safe than sorry. While a 5:22am arrival time for a 6:30am takeoff may seem sufficient, there are several factors to consider.

Check-in and Security Screening

Most airlines recommend arriving at least 90 minutes before your scheduled departure time for domestic flights. This allows ample time for check-in, baggage drop-off (if applicable), and security screening. During peak travel times or holidays, security lines can be unexpectedly long, causing delays.

Airport Navigation

Even if you've flown from the same airport before, it's essential to account for the time it takes to navigate through the terminal and reach your gate. Larger airports can be maze-like, and you may need to take a shuttle or train to reach your concourse or gate area.

Recommendation

For a 6:30am takeoff time on a domestic flight, it's advisable to aim to arrive at the airport no later than 5:00am. This extra buffer time will help ensure a stress-free and seamless travel experience, even if unexpected delays occur.

Remember, it's always better to be early and wait at the gate than to miss your flight due to unforeseen circumstances. Safe travels!
