Hello everyone!
I want to do a spontaneous trip somewhere for three weeks (starting next Monday) , solo, that's warm/tropical where it mainly acts as a retreat for me. I want some alone solo time to just read books, do some self discovery, and do some personal work (i need Internet)

Bali is full of culture, the people are amazing, and you get a variety there...you can partake in yoga retreats, go on hikes, or go to insane parties

Why Costa Rica? I don't know much about it. Some people are saying is expensive, some say is cheap so I'm confused

Puerto Rico is a good solo trip destination.

Mexico- Mayan Riviera- Tulum is the best!
There are plenty of secluded airbnbs and places to stay. Cheap but gorgeous. Energy is very healing there.
And lots of places to go around a bit if you want - Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres (you need a Cancun Airport). Then ADO bus from there to Tulum.
You will love it !

3 weeks through Latin America! Cheap and easy to do. Costa Rica is beautiful on the Caribbean side. Brazil is a 3 week trip alone and SO much to see.

I'm thinking of doing something similar in august, although not opposed to city travelling. thanks for this question, will be closely following the responses

I just got back from Lisbon and it's pretty special - you can do day trips to Sintra (forest/castle) Cascais (beaches) and Comporta .. not too pricey there either

Seconding Lisbon and surrounding area. Lots of cultural sites to visit, beaches, and gorgeous coastline. Cascais, Estoril, Sintra are all easy day trips, and Fatima, Nezare and Obidos are also accessible for longer trips/have a car. The coastline is gorgeous and has great energy.

I did a 12 day solo trip there in November. Read books, went on hikes, yoga, surf, ate good food. Tons of solo travellers there. I stayed at a hostel called casa zen. Dm me if you nees tips

I wouldn't recommend Playa del Carmen these days. I'm currently in Playa, and beaches are not amazing due to Sea grass. I don't know how it is near the hotels in playacar, but from north to the end of 5th avenue it is the same.

I would say Bermuda. Such a beautiful place and starting in a couple of days there will be a lot of multi-million-dollar yachts in that area because of the America's Cup race.

Check out Nicaragua. It's the new Costa Rica. Safer, just as ecologically rich, active volcanos and far FAR more affordable than Costa Rica. I'm going solo in July.

Can you keep this page updated? Dying to go there but after Costa Rica, wasn't sure it was worth seeing since CR was so amazing.

Monique - I've been to CR twice and Nicaragua four times. Thought I loved CR but my heart is in Nica. It's cheaper, the beaches are amazing (Gigante reminds me of a smaller Montezuma and Popoya is stunning - esp for a full moon walk) although I've only explored a small handful and it's slightly less developed. I don't think there is any city in CR that rivals Granada. I don't know anyone who has been who didn't love Nica. So worth the trip!!

Grand Anse, st Georges, Grenada. Always safe, with white and black sand beaches, plus a rain forest.

Start by working out your budget, then check flights. A couple of years ago I sailed out of St Martin, which was lovely, but flights were running over a thousand, and over 18 hours!!! Finally, I thought to check using credit card points and got a direct flight (4 hrs) that way . Once you've decided destination and flight, look into airbnb. can get a beachfront flat at a good rate. Do read the reviews critically.

I would recommend Costa Rica. Went as part of a G Adventures Tour the first time, then back again solo the year after for 2 weeks to volunteer at the Jaguar Rescue Centre in Puerto Viejo (you can play with monkeys and sloths all day!). It's a super chill area and great place to meet other tourists and locals. It's also only a boat ride away from Bocas Del Toro, Panama
. And of course, you can visit other areas of the country (I highly recommend Manuel Antonio for relaxation and the La Fortuna area for adventure).

I stayed at Vista Verde in Puerto Viejo..its a small hostel off the main road and fairly inexpensive compared to hotels in the area. Was run by a couple of cool italian guys. There's a full kitchen and hammocks everywhere. Also, full wifi service!! Across the street from the beach too

we stayed in three different areas in costa rica - tamarindo (beach, surfing, etc), arenal volcano (volcanoes and ziplining) and manuel antonio park (all of the above minus volcanoes) we loved all of them, but especially manuel ant.park....

My first solo trip was to the Carribean coast of Costa Rica. Cahuita to Manzanillo

Japan is pretty cool destination as well.

http://nomad.life/ ... have not been here but have spent lots of time in San Juan Del Sur and it's lovely - beach, town with lots of amenities, nearby adventure, great surfing close by.
Granada is also a beautiful little city with lots of great places to stay. You could also check out Ometepe, Laguna D'Apoyo or check out the beaches of Gigante and Popoyo. Gigante is totally charming - my new fave in Nica.

If you have the kayak app, check out the explore option.... some pretty awesome cheap flights!

You could also check out Cambodia.

I agree - Cambodia is amazing. I went with a small group of 3, but I am sure solo travel would be just as fun. Inexpensive and lots to see if you're into temples and local food. Can't say it is high in adventure though..but I didn't spend much time there - only 5-6 days.

You may want to check out Bali as well. Im here in a Ubud and it basically covers your checklist. Safe, friendly, relatively inexpensive, many expats.

Costa Rica for sure

Costa Rica is chill, Has lots of adventure and explore options and is relatively safe for solo travelling.

Kenya would be a great place too. You can have your choice of national parks to beaches to golf courses to mountains to you name it.

Mexico is amazing check it out particularly the Yucatan Peninsula

Check out Isla Mujeres, an island off the coast of Cancun. Our favorite place in Mexico!

Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Spent three weeks alone recently and it was perfect!
