Hi!
Looking for input on planning this trip for 2020.
Leaving from Vancouver, want to go to south of France, Italy and Greece. Looking at going for 5 weeks. If I can stop off in London, that would be amazing. I think that would also break up a long flight and then fly from Heathrow to anywhere else.… See more

We did this a few years ago and used auto europe to lease a car Eurodrive. Must be over 31 days and less$ than using rental. Great deal, brand new car and fully insured. If you choose this route you must be careful that accommodations have appropriate parking, especially in the cities. We went from Paris to Germany (romantic road area is stunning and you need a car for this area) from there we went to Prague, Hungary, Croatia, then up through Slovakia, and over to Italy, several locations there, and on to South of France. In most of these locations we booked in one place for 4-7 days and took day trips from there. We did a lot of walking and also used public transit. then we flew from Marseille to U.K.

Our route was high speed train from London to Paris, then Paris to Switzerland, then Marseilles, slower train to Nice, northern Italy, then train down to Almalfi. Made Greece a separate trip.

I feel Greece should be a separate trip. Too much to take in one trip. Where in Switzerland did you go? Zurich?

Best plans are no plans. We went for 5 weeks and flew by the seat of our pants. You never know how long you would like to stay in one place. We would stay until we saw what we wanted to see or left if we where done seeing everything.

Steve absolutely some wisdom to this be a few times we ended up having a day or two too much in one place

Steve I learned this the hard way. Booked 5 days in Hanoi which was 3 days more than I needed or even wanted to stay but pre-purchased my flight out of there months in advance. #regrets

Steve I never plan an itinerary when I travel! Just like to book a place in advance then go wherever my heart wants to while I'm there! I'm not adventurous enough to not know where I'm staying. That's the absolute minimum I need!

If you plan ahead you can save a lot on time and $$$ by booking a cheap flight out of London to Paris . Just did this in July . Train takes a long time and is exapensive

Lisa Marie Cooke yes, when I was in Europe last month, I took Eurostar and felt it would've been cheaper to book 1 way flights. Eurostar isn't cheap. And the trains run on 1 track so if 1 train is stuck.. everyone is stuck. Thats what happened to me.

Last time I checked flying one off to Athens (unless with planning) is really expensive. Have you considered Paris -> south of France -> Barcelona & Spain -> Florence -> Rome -> amalfi coast? That being said, you’re going to have a great time whatever you choose!

I've been to Paris.. I was there last month and loved it. I felt 5 days wasn't enough at all. Spain would be amazing, too. I like that itinerary!!!
