The millenials in Kyoto is really good capsule hotel. I was there in November and had an amazing time! The location is fabulous.
If you're traveling to multiple cities I highly recommend getting the JR Pass. It gave me a lot of flexibility to go from place to place.
But if you're only going to Tokyo to Kyoto, the passmo card gives greater Connectivity.

Shinjuku has a great robot restaurant, great entertainment for an evening
Elizabet
Osaka - stay at Hotel Trusty that is close to Shinsaibashi stores. Was there last Nov and going back this April .
Karyna
I recently stayed at Kyoto Arashiyama Onsen Kadensho. Booked it through Rakuten Travel. The service there is amazing. When you check-in. You leave your shoes in lockers. The whole place has tatami. Yukatas are provided in your room. If it’s not the right size (Japanese sizing run very small) you can call and ask for larger size. Dinner and breakfast is included. When booking you must select a dinner time. The dinner will make you feel like your in an episode of Anthony Bordain. There are gender separate onsens and private outdoor onsens. You just que up for the private ones. There are free refreshments and popsicles in the lobby. There is also free Ramen at midnight. It’s a close walk to the bamboo forest.

Thank you very much!! I will check it out

I stayed at a traditional Japanese Ryokan in Mt. Koya. It was incredible, in the morning there is a Bhuddist ceremony and they have an onsen.

I also highly recommend doing this. It was a highlight of my trip. We stayed at the Ekoin temple though. The journey up the mountain is beautiful, the cemetery is incredible, and it was amazing to be able to engage with the monks!

Do go to Hiroshima and Miyajima
Angela
Cheap capsule hotel located right in the middle of Shinjuku. Clean, segregated into men's n women's floors.

Consider stopping by the Himeiji Castle in Nagoya, mid-way between Tokyo n Osaka. You'll see the castle when you exit the train station...just follow the "yellow big road" ; )
It's the prettiest Japanese castle

Angela is inbetween Osaka and Hiroshima i think you meant to write

Japan Travel Guide: Accommodation and Itinerary Recommendations
Japan is a fascinating country with a unique blend of modern and traditional cultures, making it an incredible destination for travelers. With your 16-day itinerary, you'll have ample time to explore the vibrant cities and experience the rich heritage of this captivating nation.
Accommodation in Tokyo
Tokyo, the bustling capital of Japan, offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit every budget and preference. For a unique experience, consider staying at the Shinjuku Kabukicho Capsule Hotel. These capsule hotels are a quintessential Japanese experience, offering compact and efficient sleeping pods that are perfect for a night or two. Another option is to stay in one of the many traditional ryokans (Japanese inns) in the city, such as Sawanoya Ryokan in the historic Asakusa district.
Accommodation in Kyoto
Kyoto, the cultural heart of Japan, is renowned for its ancient temples, shrines, and tranquil gardens. For a truly authentic experience, consider staying at a ryokan like Hiiragiya Ryokan or Tawaraya Ryokan. These traditional inns offer the opportunity to experience Japanese hospitality and immerse yourself in the city's serene ambiance.
Suggested Day Trips
While in Japan, consider taking day trips to explore other fascinating destinations:
- Nara: Just a short train ride from Kyoto, Nara is famous for its ancient temples, including Todai-ji Temple, which houses the massive bronze Buddha statue. The city is also home to the iconic Nara Park, where you can encounter friendly deer roaming freely.
- Hiroshima: A visit to Hiroshima is a humbling experience, offering a glimpse into the devastating effects of the atomic bombing during World War II. The Peace Memorial Park and Museum provide a poignant reminder of the need for peace and nuclear disarmament.
- Hakone: Located near Tokyo, Hakone is a popular destination for its natural hot springs, stunning views of Mount Fuji, and the iconic Hakone Ropeway, which offers breathtaking vistas of the surrounding mountains and lakes.
Remember to plan your itinerary carefully, allowing enough time to fully immerse yourself in each destination and create lasting memories. Japan is a country that seamlessly blends modernity with tradition, offering endless opportunities for exploration and cultural enrichment.

We are traveling with my family ( couple + 15 years-old) to Japan in June for 16 days, starting in Tokyo and finishing in Osaka.
I'm looking for recommendations to where to stay in Tokyo and Kyoto. We would like to go to a capsule hotel for a day and the same for a ryokan.
We are planning to visit other cities for a day or two but not sure where yet, any suggestions?
Thank you very much in advance!!!
