Careful. St Lucia had always had the highest murder rate per capita. Now it’s only worse. I would not go. They are telling people to stay inside their resorts so not sure how safe a b&b is
Brendan
Leslie Glover Siemens Those numbers are per capita. I'm not sure were you got your numbers but according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in 2017 Mexico had a homicide rate of 16.35 per 100,000 people while Jamaica was at 43.21 per 100,000.
Chad
Mexico also has 47 times as many people, it's all relative.

I've read the same Brendan. We're in Montego Bay four days, and Runaway Bay all-inclusive, for 7-days. Cancelling is out of the question because my step-daughter's wedding is at Runaway Bay, 30+ friends and family will be there. Hopefully all will be ok but still feeling anxious, especially after reading about two shootings in one day at the airport roundabout 3-weeks ago

Can the hotel hire security for the wedding party?
A
Thank you Francisco, good suggestion and will look into.

I was in Jamaica in Negril when Haiti revolted. It was scary. There were armed guards driving up and down the streets at all times. There would be a whole truck load of them. I felt so sorry for the people who lived there. They had no where to go.

Word of advice (from someone with roots from Jamaica) do not step off the resort at times like these... your just looking to be a victim.
Paul
I would suggest not to go
Esteban
Also when your government issues a warning on a certain place of travel.... they won’t negotiate with terrorist... due to the fact they’ve told you not to go
Paul
Also if you booked with a credit card, with this kind of state, I'm sure they'll refund you with their insurance.
Heather
I totally agree with you scary stuff

Would love to cancel but step-daughters wedding

Just stay in the resort. Don't going on any excursions. People were grabbing us, physically looking for help. I have to say, the food was amazing!

Thank you Kerry...trying to put a positive spin on it...R&R poolside during lockdown.
We won't be doing excursions, that's for sure. Wish the wedding venue was Tofino or Peggy's Cove! lol
A
When were you there?
Kerry
a long time ago, but it was just similar circumstances. Haiti was revolting so there was unrest

Well, can't wait to sample the food! Lol
Kerry
so amazing! Everywhere!!! Jamaican pattys and lobster.
