Would the imminent Volcano eruption in BALI stop you from planning travel to the southern regions for January?

I was just there when they started the evacuations. Didn't stop me or the people on the island from doing their thing. As a matter of fact, it was more pleasant as there were less tourists so the Balinese were more likely to cut a deal.

As a matter of fact, I'm wondering why I even came back.

I wouldn't worry about that. We stayed in Ubud and there were minor tremors. The volcano faces north so that is the direction that would be impacted most. The major thing is if the eruption occurred and there was Ash, planes won't fly to Denpasar. We also stayed in Seminyak and most people were oblivious to the volcano.

So what happens when the volcano erupts and the airport shuts down? Might be weeks before it opens. I was supposed to go a few weeks ago and changed my destination to Boracay, Philippines. I couldn't live with myself being there if the volcano goes off and knowing that local people are being severely affected just 70km away from the tourist areas.

They had contingency plans set to transport people to other islands via boat and the flights would be diverted there. Pain in the ass I know, but was it worth it? Yup.

No. A volcano was erupting on Java (very close to Bali) when we went a few years ago. The airport was closed periodically and, yes, some people were inconvenienced for a few days here or there. We were lucky and it never affected our ability to get in or out. We heard horror stories of ash everywhere and were pretty unsure of what we would find. They were all totally false. It was paradise. I would still go. Absolutely

If you get travel insurance, you might consider asking them what effect it may have on their coverage

I wouldn't let it affect my plans. I flew into Bali a week after a volcano erupted in Indonesia. The airport was closed for a few days but was able to fly in without issue. I'm actually on my way to Bali again today, waiting for my flight in the Philippines as I write this. If there's any updates while I'm there I'll post it.

My son went and just came back from Bali and no problem. They need the vacationers!

I am flying dec.20 to Bali.. then Perth jan.4th.. my only worry is to fly to perth as if they cancel any flights, it would be the ones!

It was perfectly fine when I was there and they actually downgraded the situation. Unfortunately the volcano has now erupted twice in the past week so you may want to monitor the situation. It also sounds like the Denpasar airport is closed today.

Airport is open but flights from Hong Kong to Bali with Cathay are currently suspended.. I will also be flying to Perth with jet star, at this time flights are operating. I mean get have to stay in Hong Kong for a couple of days..
