Question:

Hello. My family and I plan to go camping on the beaches near Cabo in January and will be staying in Cabo for the first few nights in a hotel/hostel. Any suggestions on cheap kid friendly places? Aslo any insight on camping in the area? We have done this before years ago. Such a great experience I want my boys to enjoy. Thanks in advance.

My wife camped this region a few years ago.
She didn't feel safe camping in Cabo, so she stayed at: http://www.hostelworld.com/.../Norman.../Cabo-San-Lucas/8365
She later camped at a site an hour or so outside of Cabo.

Camping in Cabo with Kids: Tips and Recommendations

Cabo San Lucas, a renowned tourist destination in Mexico, is a perfect spot for a family camping adventure. With its stunning beaches, warm weather, and ample opportunities for outdoor activities, it's an ideal location to create lasting memories with your kids.

Affordable Kid-Friendly Accommodation in Cabo

Before embarking on your camping journey, you may want to spend a few nights in Cabo to acclimatize and explore the town. For affordable and kid-friendly accommodation, consider the following options:

  • Hostel Cabo Inn: This budget-friendly hostel offers dormitory-style rooms as well as private rooms for families. It's located in the heart of Cabo San Lucas, within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and the beach.
  • Hotel Casa Blanca: A reasonably priced hotel with a pool and family-friendly amenities. It's situated close to the marina and offers easy access to various attractions.
  • Airbnb Rentals: Consider renting an apartment or vacation home through Airbnb. This can be a cost-effective option for families, allowing you to have more space and cooking facilities.

Camping in Cabo

Cabo offers several beautiful camping spots along its picturesque beaches. Here are some recommended areas for your family camping adventure:

  • Playa Los Cerritos: This beach is located north of Cabo San Lucas and is known for its calm waters and secluded camping spots. It's a great option for families with young children as the waves are generally gentle.
  • Playa El Tule: Situated near the town of Todos Santos, this beach offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. It's a bit more remote, but camping here can be a serene and peaceful experience.
  • Playa Balandra: This beach is part of the Balandra Beach Natural Protected Area and is known for its crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches. Camping is permitted in designated areas, but facilities are limited.

Tips for Camping with Kids in Cabo

  • Pack Essentials: Ensure you have all the necessary camping gear, including a tent, sleeping bags, camping stove, cooler, and flashlights. Don't forget to bring plenty of sunscreen, hats, and insect repellent.
  • Stay Hydrated: The Cabo climate can be hot and dry, so make sure to have an ample supply of water for drinking and cooking.
  • Plan Activities: Keep your kids entertained by planning fun activities like beach games, sandcastle building, snorkeling, or hiking. Involve them in the camping setup and cooking process to make it an educational experience.
  • Safety First: Familiarize yourself with the camping area, be aware of the tides, and supervise your kids at all times when near the water.
  • Respect the Environment: Practice Leave No Trace principles by packing out all your trash and minimizing your impact on the natural surroundings.
