We loved the safari park, and go have an afternoon stroll in Oceanside - beautiful little town!

Depending on where in Balboa Park you're staying, be aware that the park area has no street lights and it gets DARK if you're walking places. I also don't feel it's very walkable. I stayed at the Dana when j went and was able to walk or bus quite easily. Just an FYI.https://www.thedana.com/#gref

Solo Week in San Diego: A Local's Guide
San Diego, with its perfect climate, stunning beaches, and vibrant culture, is an ideal destination for a solo traveler. Staying right by Balboa Park puts you in the heart of the city, with easy access to many of San Diego's top attractions. Here are some must-dos and suggestions to make the most of your week-long solo adventure.
Explore Balboa Park
As you're staying right by Balboa Park, you'll want to dedicate ample time to explore this massive urban cultural park. Home to 17 museums, gorgeous gardens, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo, you could easily spend several days here. Don't miss the stunning Botanical Building, the Japanese Friendship Garden, and the Timken Museum of Art, which houses an impressive collection of Russian icons and European old masters.
Hit the Beach
No trip to San Diego is complete without spending time at the beach. Take the bus or a rideshare to popular spots like Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, or La Jolla Cove. Rent a beach cruiser and ride along the boardwalk, or simply relax on the sand with a good book. If you're feeling adventurous, consider taking a surf lesson or renting a paddleboard.
Explore the Neighborhoods
San Diego is a city of distinct neighborhoods, each with its own character and charm. Wander through the Gaslamp Quarter, a lively downtown area filled with restaurants, bars, and Victorian-era buildings. Check out the hip and trendy North Park neighborhood, known for its craft breweries, eclectic shops, and street art. And don't miss Little Italy, where you can indulge in authentic Italian cuisine and soak up the vibrant atmosphere.
Outdoor Adventures
If you're a nature lover, San Diego offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures. Hike the trails at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, with its stunning coastal cliffs and breathtaking ocean views. Or take a scenic hike in Mission Trails Regional Park, a vast urban oasis with miles of hiking and biking trails.
Food and Drink
San Diego is a foodie's paradise, with a diverse culinary scene that ranges from fresh seafood to Mexican cuisine and craft beer. Don't miss the fish tacos at Oscars Mexican Seafood or the legendary burgers at Hodad's. For craft beer enthusiasts, check out the tasting rooms and breweries in the Miramar area or take a guided brewery tour.
With its perfect blend of urban attractions, natural beauty, and laid-back vibe, San Diego is an ideal destination for a solo traveler. Embrace the city's vibrant culture, indulge in its culinary delights, and soak up the sunny SoCal lifestyle during your week-long adventure.
