What is your experience with staying in winter (Feb, March) month or two in US? Somewhere warm and with things to do. And how to find and book reasonably priced accommodation? Thank you in advance!

We spent the last 20 winters in Hawaii until covid. The beach front condo we used to rent went from $150 US per night to $600 US per night. We used vrbo but now we too are looking for places. I am thinking Mexico all inclusive this time, or maybe Cuba.

Thank you for your comment Blake, I’ve been looking at Palm Springs or Phoenix areas
we can reach by driving our car. And I agree vrbo worked great for us in the past.

Radek you may be surprised to see the prices in Palm Sprngs area. Condos that were 125 per night on vrbo two years ago are going for a minimum of 400 to 500 per night. It’s out of control. And seemingly no discount for month long stays.

Sheila ohh yeah!!! well suddenly the winter in Calgary doesn’t look too bad!

Radek go further out. Desert Hot Springs is cheaper. And I think Arizona is cheaper too. Good luck. It is such a paradise to spend time in away from winter in YYC

Radek vrbo has worked great for us as well. The Phoenix area is really good but getting harder and harder to find anything under a 3 month rental. Also, prices have gone up probably almost double 5 years ago.

Donna thank you! Did you stay for month or two and did you manage under $100 a night?

no we did not, but there are long term rentals there. It's changing like everywhere else! Check air bnb long term rentals. Should be able to get some in Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta, I have friends that go for the winter and get reasonable prices. Hualtulco as well - the holiday inn is $60 night I saw last winter.

We really enjoyed Panama City Beach Florida for a couple of weeks at the end of February. Apparently gets busy with spring breakers, but was great when we were there. They have a law you can’t be on the beaches there between 10pm and 6 am because of spring breakers. We rented a quiet condo through vrbo or airbnb away from all of the high rise beach hotels, and it was very reasonable. 4100 Marriott Drive was the address.

Enjoying the Winter Months in the Warm US Destinations

As the colder months set in across much of the United States, many people seek refuge from the frigid temperatures and snow by heading to warmer destinations within the country. The winter months of February and March can be an excellent time to explore some of the most beautiful and vibrant regions of the US, where you can enjoy sunny skies, mild temperatures, and a plethora of outdoor activities.

Warm Winter Destinations in the US

There are several popular destinations that offer a pleasant escape from the winter chill. Here are a few options to consider:

  • Florida: With its sun-drenched beaches, theme parks, and everglades, Florida is a perennial favorite for winter travelers. Cities like Miami, Orlando, and Tampa offer a diverse range of attractions and activities.
  • Arizona: The desert landscapes of Arizona provide a stunning backdrop for outdoor adventures. Cities like Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tucson boast excellent hiking trails, golf courses, and a vibrant cultural scene.
  • Southern California: From the beaches of San Diego to the glamour of Los Angeles, Southern California offers a perfect blend of sun, sand, and entertainment. Popular destinations include San Diego, Los Angeles, and Palm Springs.
  • Hawaii: The Hawaiian Islands are a tropical paradise, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, rich culture, and endless outdoor activities. Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island are popular choices for winter vacationers.

Finding Reasonably Priced Accommodation

One of the challenges of planning a winter getaway can be finding affordable accommodation. Here are some tips to help you secure reasonably priced lodging:

  1. Book Early: Popular winter destinations tend to fill up quickly, so it's essential to book your accommodation well in advance. This not only secures your spot but can also help you get better rates.
  2. Consider Vacation Rentals: Websites like Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway offer a wide range of vacation rental options, often at more affordable rates than traditional hotels. These rentals can be especially cost-effective for larger groups or families.
  3. Look for Deals and Packages: Many hotels and resorts offer special deals and packages during the winter months to attract visitors. Be on the lookout for promotions that bundle accommodation with activities, meals, or other amenities.
  4. Stay Outside Major Cities: While staying in the heart of a major city can be convenient, it's often more expensive. Consider staying in nearby towns or suburbs, where you can find more budget-friendly options while still being within easy reach of attractions.
  5. Be Flexible with Dates: If your travel dates are flexible, you may be able to find better rates by adjusting your travel plans by a few days or weeks.

With a little planning and research, you can enjoy a memorable winter getaway in the warm and sunny destinations of the US without breaking the bank. Embrace the opportunity to escape the winter blues and create unforgettable experiences in these vibrant and welcoming locales.
