Implants are a funny thing not sure I would get them done in Mexico as if you have an issues you will not be covered here. I know of a few people that have them and including my husband and he has been in the Process of getting one for over a year. It’s not as simple as just a weekend appointment it takes months even up to a year from our experience

Profile picture of T

T

Bev many plans do cover out of country work, @GlobalHealthShift can help with that as well.

Profile picture of Bev

Bev

Yes they might cover them but if you have to keep flying back if you have issues that will be out of pocket for you. And implants can’t be done in a week or a mouth with my husbands they had to do bone grafting and multiple appointments over the last year .

And it’s been over a year of healing now he is ready for the Tooth to me put on .

Profile picture of T

Elisa do you have any coverage?

Profile picture of Elisa

Elisa

A claim was already submitted, came back as 0% coverage.

Profile picture of Elisa

I guess it would of been partly covered if there was an extraction before implant but he had 4 teeth extracted a number of years ago in Italy.

Profile picture of Trang

Elisa not Cancun but I got 2 implant done in 2 different time when we went back to vietnam and took only 2 weeks for my dentist from A to Z and I have no issues after that, has been 2 years and I just took an Xray this summer when we were back and no issue at all. And it cost me only 1.050$ CA for the whole process which included refill, remove broken tooth and implant. My dentist in vietnam that I have been follow for over 20 years and he was graduate and still go to USA for training from time to time.

Profile picture of Lindsay

Lindsay

Please please do your research. This is a surgery and the number one reasons implants fail is because of improper sterilization. The other thing to consider is after the surgery and the implant is placed it takes at least 3 months for the bone to integrate with the titanium post. If you put a crown on too soon and apply any force to that bone before healing is done it will fail. And now it will cost more to fix it here. I have seen so so many mexican failed implants it really makes me nervous.

Profile picture of Elisa

Elisa

Lindsay thanks! I will keep that in mind.

Profile picture of Lindsay

Lindsay

My dentist here that i work for does implants. We do free consults. He would be less than 16g for the work. If you wanted to explore more locally. Even having the implants placed in Canada and having the crowns done in Mexico would be a decent option. I'm at Varsity Family dental Centre if you are interested!!

Profile picture of Bev

Bev

Elisa and if he had his teeth pull along time a go make sure he has bone X-rays fine as he may need bone put in first .

Profile picture of Kanan

Julie I got a full teeth removal, sinuous lift, bone graft and 9 implants for $15,000 teeth not included tho!

exactly.. I live for 4 years in Honduras and went to the dentist there for my braces and never had any problems! They are just like us and if you go to a more expensive dentist over there (still less than here) they are often super equipped and have done all their studies in the USA.

It’s not that the dentist are not great it’s just with Implants so much can go wrong and it’s not just a one day appointment it takes months and if you have any complications a lot of dentist her won’t take you and if they do they will charge you through the roof

Infection is a huge risk and training is very costly.
I would want a place that is inspected by a trusted entity and credentials equal to North American standards. Very risky and no follow up care once you leave.
The costs are so high here, this route is tempting.
Old adage....”you get what you pay for” Be very careful.

Profile picture of Marie

Marie

Janet Mexican dentists are often trained at the same schools or equivalent schools as dentists in North America. As a matter of fact, there are Canadian and American dentists working in Mexico. There are also organizations and government agencies in Mexico that protect consumer rights. I would recommend that the OP go through a trusted agency and do some research on the internet and I am very confident that they will great dental care in Mexico.

Bev hopefully the OP can come down for longer then and STILL save thousands of dollars! Who wouldn't want to do it, especially if they have the time!
Also my godfather got his implants done pretty quickly in Mexico. My father got his done in Canada and cost him almost 10k. With 10k you can stay in Mexico all winter!
