IMO Not recommended to go out of country at all. Seen a lot of bad work from abroad (everywhere from Mexico,Yuma, US, India, Philippines, Lebanon etc) and then it needed to be redone here so it didn’t save any money in the long run! Another thing that can happen is those other countries can use implants or parts that are not compatible with parts used here which can make it challenging for you moving forward.
I know some will say they have had success. And they may have. But many don’t - and that is the risk you take. I also heard of some who have gotten sepsis and had to be hospitalized abroad at hundreds of thousands of dollars of expense. Even of the ones who have had initial “success” , usually it’s short lived (2-3 years) and then often the implants are failing, falling out, need to be redone etc. It's really not as uncommon as you think.
I recommend that If you can afford to “travel/vacation” on top of the implants , then spend the little extra and get it done local. That way you can go back if you have issues and be properly taken care of. Plus yearly check ups are strongly recommended to protect your investment - so again better to have someone local. There are companies that can help you finance if you want a “payment plan” type of thing.
This is not meant to offend you or anyone else. I’m just speaking from experience as we see a lot of it in our business. Issues are not at all uncommon. Even within the city they happen but you have the benefit of returning back to get them taken care of.
We can refer you to someone in the city if you want... PM me!

Go abroad! Dentist here are crooks!
Sylvie
On another topic...why isn't the cost of dental work not regulated in Alberta as it is almost everywhere else in other Canadian provinces? This would avoid the need to go abroad for treatment.
Steve
A dental fee guide has been in effect since January 1, 2018 thanks to the NDP.
Ron
But it is not mandatory for a dentist to follow it.
Steve
Pick a dentist who does.

Many of professions/salaries/wages are higher in Alberta than other provinces. Even our minimum wage for example is higher than most provinces (on Oct 1st 2018 we WILL be the highest Minimum Wage in the Country) . It's not just in the dental industry!! Plus our infection control regulations are MUCH more stringent in Alberta than other provinces. This means a higher operating cost relative to other locations. Our higher wages are why people from all over Canada come to work here in Alberta! Check out the stats - in 2017 we were the highest average salary in Canada by approx $7,000+ PER PERSON annually compared to the 2nd leading province of NFL/LAB. Approx. $8000 more than Ontario where the cost of living in the large metropolitan cities is astronomical compared to Edmonton.
It's all relative

The cost of doing business here is higher than other provinces. Our infection control standards are the highest in the country as a result of the infamous vegreville hospital incident.
The question should not be why does it cost so much or why aren't fee guides mandatory, it should be why isn't basic dental care covered as a part of our public health?
Teesha
I totally agree Kaitlin! So frustrated with the Alberta Blue Cross "whistle blowers" who got everyone up in arms over the fees in Alberta. I'd LOVE to see a comparison on the cost of THEIR premiums vs. other insurance companies. I know we personally have Alberta Blue Cross for ourselves but their fees are ASTRONOMICAL!! We pay almost $300/month for my husband and self (we don't have kids or dependants). Would love to know how this compares with other provinces insurance plans and also with other insurance companies and our annual dental max is $1100 and they don't even pay for Recall Examinations (prevention costs less than treatments).

Costa Rica- depending on how extensive, u should book ur recovery facility first, this one was amazing. They did full meals, blended...and can recommend great doctors/dentists.

I have a friend who offers this as a business who can get you more info if you'd like on locations in the Dominican and Mexico. She has visited and/or used all of the sites she has on her roster. PM me for more info.

My in laws live in Arizona, just north of Nogales. Tonnes of people walk across the border and have their dental work done. A lot of my family have gone and had extensive work done there.
Dean
I got mine done in the domincan several years ago for about 1/4 of the price they quoted me in alberta to get it down. It was quick clean and i didnt have any issues. But i had to make 2 trips first was to get the implant itself then had to go back min 6 months later after it healed up and swelling went down to get the crown put on
Jordan
And still cheaper than Alberta? Incredible.
Dean
Yea even including my flights it was still like 1/2 the price of what they quoted me in alberta. So basically i got 2 vacations there and an implant for like 1/2 of what i would have paid in alberta.. But that doesnt include hotel because i have an uncle that lives down there that i stayed at.
Agnes
U of A School of Dentistry is a good, safe option and the cost is a third to half the cost. All work is supervised. Plus those learning to do implants are already dentists.
Wendy
If you can get in. Isn’t there an income threshold?
Agnes
I haven't gone for implants but I am going now for crowns and a bridge and income wasn't one of the questions. You do need to go through a screening process but it is to ensure the work is suitable for the students.
Janice
Almost Impossible to get in to and you have to plan to be there for an entire day!
Agnes
We had no problem getting in and max 3 hour appointments. But still a good option.
Heidi
A friend had dental implants done in Puerto Vallarta by an expat dentist. Much cheaper and legit. But do your research on the doc you choose.
Joey
I live in Progreso, Yucatan. Tons of people come here to have them done at a very low price while enjoying the beach. Quite in expensive.
Joey
I also highly recommend my dentist. She's great.
Geoff
The Ukraine or Dominican Republic. The main issue with implants is it a 2 step process which usually means 2 trips. Sound $1000 each.
Joy
Stay in Yuma,Arizona and go to algadonese,Mexico.go online to make appointments.Dr Ramos is great. Thousands have done this.
Trina
A lot of people go to Yuma and then walk across to Algadones, Mexico (sp?)
ER
This is what a lot of our relatives have done
Glenda
My dentist in Algadones is American trained. I had crowns done. Very pleased and way less expensive. The cost of crowns here is insane!
Lori
I say Los Algodones as well. My parents and their friends always go there.
Jennifer
My coworker had them done in the Ukraine. Not sure if the advantage was price as much as he was there for a visit at the same time.
Shannon
If you can't drink water from the tap in that country why would you get dental implants from there!!
Catherin
Which country? Are you referring to Puerto Vallarta?
Joey
You can drink tap water in Mexico and not get sick. However the mineral content is hard on some people so most of us don't. I live here!
Shannon
I wasn't talking about Mexico specifically. I would just take caution getting dental surgery if couldn't drink from the tap!
Derek
Like Italy or Germany?
Lauren
Friend of mine has had all his work done in Cartegena, Columbia with great results
Kix
Thailand, Chaang mai. Very popular with dental tourisium. We had some work done there.

Why Costa Rica?
Costa Rica has become a hub for medical tourism, particularly in the field of dentistry. Here are a few reasons why it's an excellent choice for dental implants:
