I’ve been traveling solo for the last ten years. Including a year long trip around the world. Solo travel is the best therapy. Loneliness and fear get quickly replaced by self confidence and self esteem. You can literally do anything after you travel solo! You’re never alone when you travel solo. Hostel commons rooms, walking tours and hangouts are loaded with other solo travelers just waiting to meet you. We’re all made of the same stuff. We all have your back.

Solo Travel: Lessons Learned and Tips for Beginners
Introduction
A few months ago, I embarked on my first solo trip as a recently divorced woman. It was a daunting prospect, but I'm overjoyed to share that I did it! Last month, I ventured to Hong Kong and Chiang Mai, Thailand, all by myself. While my trip was only 2 weeks long, it was a transformative experience that ignited a passion for solo travel.
The Journey
My solo journey was an exhilarating adventure. I felt a sense of freedom and independence that I had never experienced before. Exploring new cultures, meeting new people, and overcoming challenges on my own filled me with confidence and empowerment.
In Hong Kong, I marveled at the bustling metropolis and its vibrant street markets. In Chiang Mai, I immersed myself in the serene beauty of the temples and enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere. Each destination offered a unique experience that broadened my horizons and deepened my appreciation for the world's diversity.
Benefits of Solo Travel
Solo travel offers countless benefits for both women and men. It allows you to:
- Step outside your comfort zone: Solo travel pushes you to embrace new experiences and challenges, fostering personal growth and resilience.
- Discover your own interests: Traveling alone gives you the freedom to explore what you genuinely enjoy without the influence of others.
- Build confidence: Overcoming challenges and navigating unknown territories on your own boosts your self-esteem and self-reliance.
- Meet new people: Solo travel provides opportunities to interact with locals and other travelers, expanding your social circle and fostering new friendships.
- Gain a fresh perspective: Stepping away from your daily routine and immersing yourself in different cultures offers a new perspective on life and your own values.
Tips for Solo Travelers
If you're considering embarking on a solo trip, here are some tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience:
- Plan and research: Do your homework before your trip. Research your destinations, including safety precautions, local customs, and transportation options.
- Stay connected: Inform friends or family about your itinerary and check in with them regularly. Keep your phone charged and carry a portable charger.
- Trust your instincts: If something feels wrong, don't hesitate to leave a situation or ask for help. Your safety should always be your top priority.
- Be open-minded: Solo travel is an opportunity to embrace new experiences and learn about different cultures. Be prepared to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things.
- Have fun: Most importantly, relax and enjoy your adventure! Solo travel is a unique and empowering experience that will leave you with lasting memories and a newfound sense of independence.
Conclusion
If you've ever dreamed of traveling solo, I encourage you to take the leap. It's an experience that has the power to transform your life. Remember, you don't have to be a seasoned traveler or a confident extrovert to enjoy solo travel. All you need is an open mind, a sense of adventure, and a willingness to embrace the unknown. So, pack your bags, research your destinations, and prepare to embark on an unforgettable journey of self-discovery and adventure.
Happy wandering in 2018 and beyond!
