Can Canadians get coverage for COVID-19 when traveling?

Chris
Hi Gillian,
These are the 3 (possibly 4) options I've seen for travel insurance with medical coverage for COVID-19.
http://ydeals.com/where-canadians-can-travel...
-
1) Seven Corners - a U.S. insurance agency that will also insure Canadians and offers medical insurance plans that cover COVID.
www.sevencorners.com
Their Liaison Travel Plus plan specifically mentions medical coverage for COVID worldwide.
-
-
2) Trawick International's 'Safe Travels International Cost Saver' plan.
www.trawickinternational.com
Trawick claims that COVID-19 expenses are covered and treated as any other sickness.
However, Trawick explicitly mentions that travel to the United States is *not* covered.

3) Medipac's 'Early Bird Special' plan.
www.medipac.com
Medipac is the official insurance provider for the Canadian Snowbird Association and they've announced that their 'Early Bird Special' plan provides coverage for COVID-19 medical claims.
You can find the details in this PDF file. The Medipac website seems pretty terrible, and all Google roads for the 'Early Bird Special plan' seem to lead to snowbirds.org or calling for more info.

Chris I just emailed them and spoke to an online agent. They cover Covid 19.

Linda
you may need to check - the travel insurance places I checked with said that as long as the canadian gov't is saying "emergency travel only" covid related illness is not covered, but it would be covered otherwise so as usual, check the fine print ...
Chris
Yep, this is the case right now for the vast majority of insurers. The 3 mentioned at the top are possible exceptions.
Linda
Chris possible is the key. The devil is always in the details...and thanks for doing the research on this issue. Once again this forum provides a great info resource.
Mandi
As far as I know yes you can get it but it will NOT cover any covid related sickness. Check out Alianz travel insurance
Natalie
Monica something to look into ?!
Jag
You can get coverage however no insurance company will cover covid related issues
Joyce
Thanks everyone for providing their researched information. Good to know even though I will wait till the risk is low to travel, always a must to have a backup plan.
Gillian
Thank you everyone. I found also that Allianz will give insurance coverage, not covid coverage though.
Melissa
The answer is no. Pretty sure all ins companies wrote that into the fine line.... No coverage for anything covid related.
I see I'm wrong. Still. I don't trust em. They'll find a way to weasel out

As a retired Cdn insurance broker I am fairly confident that travel with Covid coverage is not available. Please remember that if you contract Covid you just can’t jump on a plane and come home. Imagine a one month stay in a US hospital.
Glenn
Medipac has a good plan
Cindy
Canadatousa has coverage for canadians even with the travel ban on in canada ! I have researched and phoned many many places this is the only 1 that I have found. A usa company..run by canadians...ex vancouver canucks player Darcy Hardichuk

Certain countries (Dominican Republic), airlines (Emirates, Virgin Atlantic), and tour operators (air canada vacations) are also starting to include covid-19 insurance for free.

I use Trawick International. They cover for covid related issues but not pre-existing conditions. Very reasonable rates!
