Question:

Hello, I'm a teacher which makes it really hard for me to find cheap flights due to the way my holidays line up. Does anyone know of any cheapish international flights through July and August? Or am I too early?

If you want to go to Europe - air transat has flights to London in July and Aug that can range from $900 to $1200 - flexibility in being able to choose your dates can get you a low rate - from there you can take low cost Inter-Europe flights - Also I would wait a bit, my experience is that there will be sales in the next week or so, and again in about May

Former teacher here, and if you're talking Europe, the main thing is to just get there. Intra-continental airfare on easyjet/ryanair etc is shockingly cheap. Rail travel can be a good bet too.
Other than that, just be vigilant in checking deal websites...

If you are open to doing a volunteer vacation the dive resort we used to go to on the Perhentian Island in Malaysia was looking for volunteers for their grassroots turtle hatchery. Accommodation is basic but food is great and the owners treat you like family. Perhaps you can agree on a price just so you don't end up staying in the dorms, which I'm guessing are free for volunteers. It's called Bubbles Dive Resort. Diving would be free for volunteers I think.

Cheapest flight I ever had was in 2013 from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu: 45 minute flight on Air Asia for $10! My bag cost more than the flight, $15 I think. On our way to Perhentian Islands which are fantastic.

Affordable International Flights for Teachers during Summer Break

As a teacher, finding cheap flights during the summer months can be a real challenge. With school holidays lining up with peak travel season, airfares tend to skyrocket. However, with some strategic planning and flexibility, it is possible to find reasonably priced international flights for your summer getaway.

Is it too early to book flights for July and August?

No, it's not too early to start looking for flights during the summer months. In fact, many travel experts recommend booking your flights several months in advance to get the best deals. Airlines typically release their flight schedules and fares around 11 months before the travel dates, so now would be a good time to start your search.

Tips for finding cheap international flights:

  • Be flexible with travel dates: If possible, try to be flexible with your travel dates, as even a day or two can make a significant difference in airfare prices. Midweek flights are often cheaper than weekends.
  • Consider alternative airports: Airports in major cities tend to be more expensive. Look for nearby alternative airports, as they may offer cheaper options.
  • Sign up for fare alerts: Many travel sites and airline websites offer fare alert services that will notify you when prices drop for your desired routes.
  • Check budget airlines: Low-cost carriers like Wow Air, Norwegian Air, and AirAsia offer affordable international flights, especially for routes within Europe or Asia.
  • Use flight search engines: Websites like Skyscanner, Momondo, and Google Flights can help you find the best deals by comparing prices across multiple airlines and travel sites.
  • Consider stopovers: Flights with one or more stopovers can sometimes be cheaper than direct routes. Just make sure the layover times are reasonable.

With a little patience and flexibility, you should be able to find reasonably priced international flights for your summer break. Happy hunting!
