The train is SO awesome! It’s so fast and cost effective, easy to use and the scenery is incredible. We used it between all cities we visited.

The train around Italy is extremly fast, affordable and in my opinion the best way to travel around. Flights are more expensive ince you pay fir luggage plus it takes way longer once you get there, security, loading, deplaning and then getting your luggage. My husband and I spent 3 weeks in Italy and took train everywhere.
The more advance you book the cheaper it is. We booked on anything we could find. Omio and italianrail

Find the cheapest flight to Europe period ...(use google flights with Europe as a destination). Then fly or train to where you want to be

The 2 cheapest entries to Italy from Canada are Rome and Venice. Take the train from there. Italy has modern high-speed direct trains between major centres and slower multi-stop trains for small cities/towns. I've taken the train all over Italy many times over the years and few flights are faster when you factor in getting to and from the airport/security. Exceptions are Milan to Palermo.

Trains are a great option to travel inside Italy. However, choose Italo over Trenitalia. Italo has high speed trains, air and wifi as well board service.

Tips for Your Italy Trip to Puglia in November
Planning a trip to the beautiful region of Puglia in Italy during November can be a wonderful experience. The weather is generally mild, with average temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to the mid-60s Fahrenheit, making it an ideal time to explore this charming destination without the crowds and heat of the summer months.
Getting to Nardo, Puglia
Your idea of landing in Rome and then taking a scenic train ride to Nardo, Puglia, is an excellent one. Rome's Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) is a major international hub, and it's well-connected to various destinations within Italy by rail.
Here's a suggested route:
- Fly into Rome's Fiumicino Airport (FCO).
- From the airport, take the Leonardo Express train to Roma Termini, the city's main railway station.
- At Roma Termini, board a high-speed Frecciarossa or Frecciargento train to Lecce, a beautiful city in the heart of Puglia.
- From Lecce, you can either rent a car or take a local train to Nardo, your final destination.
The train journey from Rome to Lecce takes approximately 4-5 hours, depending on the service you choose. Along the way, you'll be treated to stunning views of the Italian countryside, passing through regions like Lazio, Campania, and Basilicata.
Train Experiences in Italy
Traveling by train in Italy is a delightful experience. The country's rail network is extensive and efficient, offering comfortable and scenic rides. Here are a few tips and insights:
- Book your train tickets in advance to secure the best fares and seats. You can do this online or at major train stations.
- Consider reserving a seat in the Quiet Zone (Zona Silenzio) for a more peaceful journey if you prefer less noise.
- Pack some snacks and beverages, as dining cars are not available on all trains.
- Enjoy the scenery! The train rides through Italy offer breathtaking views of rolling hills, vineyards, and historic towns.
- Be prepared for potential delays, as trains can sometimes run behind schedule due to various reasons.
Once in Puglia, you can take advantage of Ryanair's affordable flights to explore other regions of Italy or even neighboring countries during your stay.
Embrace the slower pace of life in Puglia, indulge in the region's delicious cuisine, and immerse yourself in the rich history and culture. November is a fantastic time to visit, as you'll avoid the peak tourist season while still enjoying pleasant weather.
Have a wonderful trip!

Italy question!
I’m looking at flights to Italy for the month of November (flexible on dates). Am going to be staying in Puglia for most of the trip. Will probably use ryan air for short trips within Italy once settled.
I am looking for suggestions on how to get to my end point (where to land first… Nardo, Puglia is end point). I’m thinking of landing in Rome and then taking a train for a scenic route. Would love to hear train experiences if anyone has some!
Thanks!
