I would recommend staying at least one night in a capsule hotel for the experience. And then after that a ryokun with an onsen. Take a look at japan-guide.com for helpful things to do and see, and how to navigate the train system and buy a Japan Rail Pass. Enjoy!

We stayed at the Hotel Sunroute Higashi Shinjuku in Shinjuku (Toyko is made up of a lot of areas and Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Harajuku are some of the tops ones for tourists. The hotel is right around the corner from the train station (JR line) (note the trains are "deep" and many lines run there but very easy to get around). I would recommend Hato Bus tours (great English guided tours and you get to see a lot- we did a one day tour with a river cruise, very affordable). https://www.hatobus.com/ We were only in Toyko for 3 days so had to maximize our time and wish we had more time. Also, for to and from Narita airport, take the Narita Express to Shinjuku station then a taxi to the hotel (if staying in Shinjuku)(don't bother getting on another train at Shinjuku on the JR line to try and get to your hotel, you will get frustrated). You can buy a return ticket at Narita for about $40 Cdn for the train and it is fast, clean, and a really nice ride from Narita.

https://www.mystays.com/.../Tokyo/Hotel-MyStays-Kameido/ - this is where we stayed for a week. Easy to get to the train and can get all over the city from there. I personally had no trouble taking the train to our hotel and found it way cheaper - it was like 11$
