Might be hard to list them all out here, but on my two trips to Japan I used this website to help guide me! https://www.japan-guide.com/

I always visit the Buddha in Hong Kong. It’s getting more and more touristy, but still worth a visit.
Karen
Definitely the Big Buddha
Steve
And check out Tai O fishing village while visiting the Big Buddha. Just a short bus ride away. Also, Nan Lian Garden/Chi Lin Nunnery in Diamond Hill.
Suzanna
I recommend using Klook for a discount and skipping the normal lineup.

Tokyo is amazing. Four days is not enough to see everything so I would say pick what kind of scene you want because every neighbourhood is so different. For a more touristy area you could do Asakusa. Akihabara is a more weird hip area, There is an amazing park near Harajuku that leads to an old sake distillery.
Ollan
Take river boat ride from Hamarikyu Gardens to Asakusa , short walk to major attractions...check winter schedule for boat..
Andy
I used to take people who visited to Hamrikyu like Ollan suggests. For something off the beaten track into the suburbs, this was a favorite restaurant. About 40 minutes from Shinjuku https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaurant_Review-g1021282...
Andy
And this place was a really fun experience - food cooked right in front of you, very lively. Ikebukuro is on the Tokyo loop Yamanote line a few stops from Shinjuku. https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaurant_Review-g1066460...

Hong Kong, take the Star Ferry across to Kowloon. It's dirt cheap and really gives you the feeling of being on holidays
Stephen
Piss alley in shinjuku lol. if you like yakitori and other street meat..
Andy
Yes, great atmosphere - worth a visit at least
Sandra
Visit the wild monkeys. Just be careful. At least if you love wild monkeys as much as I do
.
The giant Buddha was awesome as well. And the aerial tram.

Warning about these wild monkeys. I’d try to watch them from inside a vehicle as these wild monkeys will kick your ass if you are not careful. Even the locals avoid them

The Imperial gardens are cool and then you can go for ramen in Tokyo station before or after.

Star Ferry. The Peak. Take ferry to Lantau for day. Best bar? 7-11:) Kowloon Park is col in temperature. Ladies Market and Temole Street Market are not really good but youll go. Sneaker Market? Just lots if brand name sneakers. And the lazer light show should ha e won all those awards for being shit! Oh have some dim sum. Was there 3 weeks ago and Tim Ho Wan is still good but locals have moved on. And there is a roof bar area where you can bring your own alcohol! Public area outside or bar.
Keith
Also to get to base of the tran for the peak take the escalators...kinda fun. Longest in world...they go and go!

My son is in Tokyo on a solo trip. He found it really easy to get around, friendly and exciting. He says Not to miss going to Disney Tokyo. He is heading to Hong Kong next.. plans to do Disney Hong Kong also.
Koji
Although this is not recommended, I think that the morning commuter train in Tokyo will have a very exciting experience. Especially it is better to prepare around 8 o'clock in the morning. It means that you should not ride a morning commuter train.lol
James
Actually, I'd recommend it as an experience. Get on the Yamanote line at 7:30am, grab a seat, and do a full loop.
Nikki
Hong Kong. Star ferry(like the seabus). The peak. Temple Street night market

Go for a wander and find Oddies Foodies. Amazing egg waffles. If I had found this place earlier in my trip I would have been there every day.

If you are using Narita airport, the town of Narita very nearby is a great old town with a big temple and nice old shopping street with interesting souvenirs.

I'm going to Tokyo and Hong Kong in January... spending just 4 days in each city. It's my first time and going alone lol. Any "must visit" places in either city other than the well known tourist spots? Thanks!
