My husabnd and I (plus one other couple)are going to Japan this September. Most of our days are planned for Tokyo and Kyoto, but we have a couple of free days in Osaka. Does anyone have any recommendations of MUST see or do things for Osaka? We don't mind going off the beaten path. Thanks!

Make a trip out to Nara from Osaka. Deer park there is beautiful and the deer roaming around are quite entertaining. Half day trip only.

Must-See Attractions in Osaka, Japan

Osaka, the vibrant and energetic city of Japan, offers a unique blend of modern and traditional attractions. With its rich history, delicious cuisine, and lively entertainment scene, Osaka is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Japan. Here are some must-see and do things for your couple of free days in Osaka:

1. Dotonbori

Dotonbori is the heart of Osaka's entertainment district, known for its neon lights, bustling streets, and an abundance of restaurants and shops. Take a stroll along the iconic Dotonbori Canal and marvel at the larger-than-life neon signs, such as the famous Glico Running Man. Don't miss the chance to try Osaka's famous street food, including takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes).

2. Osaka Castle

No visit to Osaka is complete without exploring the majestic Osaka Castle. This iconic landmark, built in the late 16th century, features impressive stone walls, towering gates, and a five-story main keep. Wander through the castle grounds and immerse yourself in the rich history and beauty of this architectural marvel.

3. Shitennoji Temple

For a glimpse into Osaka's spiritual side, visit Shitennoji Temple, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Japan. This ancient temple complex features stunning architecture, beautiful gardens, and a serene atmosphere. Don't miss the opportunity to witness traditional ceremonies and experience the tranquility of this sacred site.

4. Kuromon Ichiba Market

Immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture at Kuromon Ichiba Market, also known as Osaka's Kitchen. 5. Shinsekai

For an off-the-beaten-path experience, venture into the quirky neighborhood of Shinsekai. This retro district is known for its old-school charm, dating back to the early 20th century.
