I've been to all three and heartily recommend Turkey. If you need any tips on that country, let me know.

Jordanian Adventure: Exploring Egypt or Turkey for a Few Extra Days

With a few extra days on your upcoming trip to Jordan in late September, you face an exciting dilemma: whether to embark on an adventure in Egypt or Turkey. Both destinations offer a treasure trove of historical wonders, vibrant cultures, and breathtaking landscapes.

To help you make an informed decision, let's dive into the pros and cons of each destination:

Egypt: Land of the Pharaohs

Pros:

  • Ancient Wonders: Experience the awe-inspiring Pyramids of Giza, the colossal Sphinx, and the Valley of the Kings, where pharaohs once ruled.
  • Nile River Cruise: Embark on a picturesque cruise along the iconic Nile River, soaking in the beauty of ancient temples and lush landscapes.
  • Hurghada's Beaches: For relaxation, head to the Red Sea resort of Hurghada, renowned for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and water sports.

Cons:

  • Crowds: Tourist hotspots like the pyramids can be heavily crowded, especially during peak seasons.
  • Safety Concerns: While Egypt has made strides in security, it's important to stay vigilant and avoid isolated areas.
  • Visa Requirements: US citizens require a visa to enter Egypt, which can be time-consuming and costly.

Turkey: East Meets West

Pros:

  • Cultural Fusion: Immerse yourself in a blend of Eastern and Western influences in cities like Istanbul and Cappadocia.
  • Hagia Sophia: Marvel at the architectural masterpiece, hailed as one of the world's greatest wonders.
  • Hot Air Balloon Ride: Enjoy a magical sunrise hot air balloon ride over the surreal fairy chimneys of Cappadocia.

Cons:

  • Language Barrier: Turkish is the primary language, and while English is widely spoken in tourist areas, communication can be challenging outside major cities.
  • Currency Fluctuations: The Turkish lira has faced significant fluctuations, which can impact travel expenses.
  • Crowds: Cappadocia is especially popular during peak season, leading to crowds at major attractions.

Personal Opinion:

Ultimately, the best choice for you depends on your preferences and interests. If you're drawn to ancient history and would appreciate a river cruise, Egypt may be the more suitable option. If you prefer a blend of cultures, impressive architecture, and hot air balloon rides, Turkey offers an equally captivating experience.

Conclusion:

With its iconic pyramids and ancient temples, Egypt transports you back in time. Turkey, on the other hand, offers a captivating blend of Eastern and Western influences. By weighing the pros and cons of each destination, you can make an informed choice that will enhance your Jordanian adventure.

Safe travels and may your extra days be filled with unforgettable memories!
