Is the Nexus security line at YVR airport still fast despite staffing shortages?

Question:

Has anyone gone through the Nexus security line at the YVR airport lately? With the security staffing shortages and long waits, is the Nexus line still fast? (We also have to arrive at 5:30 am.)

For domestic seems to be hit or miss if the nexus line is open. Even if it is usually it’s just a skip the majority of the line.

Sharonbeth if it’s not open at domestic just let the staff know at entrance that you are a nexus cardholder & they should let you into a line to scoot to the front.

I flew in February and last November, the nexus line may seem like it’s not open. I just went to ask the personnel scanning in peoples ticket, and he opened a different line for me to access. The regular line was super long.

It’s the passengers who are not prepared, they don’t have themselves or their bags ready for the belt. And their bags are filled with crap that needs to be searched. I agree there are not enough catsa and lanes open. But place the blame where it belongs , FOTSG

Used it 2x recently. Open and almost to the front of the line

The last two times I went I found the nexus line was slower than the regular line. But I think it depends on the day and the time

I used it on Sunday at 2:30. Show the card to first attendant who looks at your boarding pass. They will direct you there. I was the first while there were maybe 10 people in the other lineup. Everything was fast for me overall.

Hi - we went through the Nexus line 10 days ago when arriving home from the UK. It was fast and easy. I was also randomly selected for a Covid test. This also was done quickly and I was less than 5 minutes behind my husband who was not selected.

I flew out this past Monday morning, 0915hrs flight time. I have never seen a nexus lineup that long, around 100ppl if you include those inside the screening room. I waited ~ 30 minutes before reaching the X-ray.

We just flew out of yvr this morning, arriving at 5:15am, and we were the only ones at the C gate security area. From the skytrain to the other side of security in about 7 mins. The A/B gates security was a bit busier but still pretty quiet.

Is the Nexus Line Still a Time-Saver at YVR Airport?

With the recent airport staffing shortages and long security wait times, many travelers are wondering if the expedited Nexus screening line at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is still worth it. As someone who recently went through the Nexus line at YVR, I can share my experience and insights.

My Experience with the Nexus Line

I arrived at the airport around 5:30 a.m. for an international flight, and the main security line was already quite long. However, the Nexus line was relatively short, with only a handful of people ahead of me.

While the regular security line seemed to be moving slowly, the Nexus line progressed smoothly. I went through the screening process in under 10 minutes, which included the usual steps of scanning my boarding pass, going through the metal detector, and having my carry-on bag checked.

Is the Nexus Line Still Faster?

Based on my recent experience, the Nexus line at YVR is still significantly faster than the regular security line, even with the staffing shortages. The dedicated Nexus screening area appears to be adequately staffed, allowing for efficient processing of Nexus members.

However, it's important to note that the time savings may vary depending on the time of day and the volume of travelers. During peak travel periods, even the Nexus line may experience some delays, although it's likely to be shorter than the regular line.

Tips for Using the Nexus Line at YVR

  1. Arrive Early: While the Nexus line is generally faster, it's still advisable to arrive at the airport well in advance, especially for early morning flights. Arriving around 5:30 a.m. for an international flight is a reasonable precaution.
  2. Have Your Documents Ready: Make sure to have your Nexus card and boarding pass readily available to streamline the process.
  3. Follow Security Instructions: Even though the Nexus line is expedited, you'll still need to follow all security protocols, such as removing laptops and liquids from your carry-on bag.

Conclusion

If you're a Nexus member traveling through YVR, the expedited Nexus security line is still a valuable time-saver, despite the ongoing staffing challenges. While no line is completely immune to delays, the Nexus line remains a reliable option for a smoother and faster airport experience.
