Which Caribbean Mexico resort has the best dining options and pools?

Question:

Trying to choose a resort on the Caribbean side of Mexico. I have yet to read consistent reviews of any resort
. I want good food, more than a couple of dining options and good pools and good lounge chairs. Who has been to this side of Mexico in the last two months and would recommend where they stayed? Unfortunately I can’t afford the top luxury resorts. Much appreciated!

Monica was the food good? Any cons you experienced? There are some bad reviews of this resort but then there are bad reviews for most of them. My grands is currently at Ocean Riviera Paradise which had good reviews but they had a couple of cockroaches in their room 3 nights in a row. It has quite good reviews overall.

Rhea I’ve stayed at Ocean Riviera Paradise twice, and would absolutely go back.

Rhea it’s been a few years since I stayed there but I found the food mediocre, at best. The guacamole at the buffet was still half frozen when they put it out at lunch.

Profile picture of Dawna

Rhea it’s a tropical climate, there are bugs. The chemicals they use to keep them out of your rooms are extremely harmful to the people spraying and staying! Be glad it’s not bedbugs that will come home with you.

Profile picture of Rhea

Rhea

Dawna I get that and there weren’t a lot of them. Thankfully her boyfriend killed them but it would freak me out a bit to have to kill them lol

Rhea I am going there Monday and was there in April we like it a lot especially the family club. It’s two resorts together so lots of space, pools, places to eat and the beach is beautiful even with the seaweed. They do try to get rid of it but it’s at most beaches.

Rhea We did not like it there. Just came from Grand Sunset Princess which shares property and restaurants with Grand Riviera Princess. Food is just ok. The same every day in all three restaurants. Poor variety. Did not like service. Too many people, super loud and busy. To get a lounge with shade on the beach you have to get up at 7am and put a towel to secure your spot. Unless you stay at Platinum, you won't get drinks served at the Beach, but have to wait in line at the bar. Will never go there again.

Rheawe ended up eating at the children buffet restaurant pretty much every as it was much quieter, less crowded and the food was amazing. The regular buffets were so big and loud. The waiters in kids buffet were fantastic. The speciality restaurants at all these all inclusive hotels are always "ok" in my opinion. I prefer the quality of the buffets. What I loved about Grand Riveria was the beach. It was beautiful beach with loads of shade. You could also walk for miles. It also had a dive shop onsite for scuba, snorkeling etc.
If your looking for a newer hotel, amazing food , beautiful beach, and a fantastic hotel then I would recommend the grand Catalonia costa Mujeres, that mentioned in a previous comment. It's 40 mins from Cancun airport.
Any other questions, let me know

Rheaanother thing, is I think people when reviewing these hotels , fail to remember when they travel to a foreign country they aren't gonna get the same as "back home". We need to keep that in mind and be opened minded when we travel.

Profile picture of Rhea

Rhea

Monica exactly. I also think many resorts are not back to their pre-Covid standards yet and don’t have enough staff. I’m just looking for a clean functioning room and good good and clean pools.

Monica I second that! Good bang for your buck, lots of food options for any picky eater. We’ve been there 3 times and love it!

Polinagood to know. How is the beach. I heard there was a hurricane in Dec so the beach width is a bit smaller?

The beach is a bit smaller but still good enough for a week
Some people on the first floor had their room flooded but there was a lot of rain one day, but it all was promptly cleaned up.
Dining was great, we mostly did buffet and two a la carte. There is ab app to book dinners so super convenient (app is called princess resorts)

Taunia what about seaside palms?

Profile picture of Audra

Audra

Palms and seaside are the same resort just two different vibes. Seaside has the tower with pools on the balconies and more of a party atmosphere. Palms has many beautiful palm trees and is quiet. We had a beachfront room which was awesome and surprisingly not more expensive than other rooms. There is no theatre so the shows are on the beach with a stage set up.
Lots of bali beds on the beach. Just tip the guys in the beach hut to save you a spot!

The barcelo complex has I believe 5 resorts ranging in price.
I have also stayed at the Grand Sirenis, which was more affordable and I loved it.

We loved
Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancún All Inclusive !!! Short trip from Cancun airport, food was great, pools are nice, small resort, we loved our room facing the back of the resort - quiet, no wind, peaceful.
This year we are between Dreams Natura and Royalton Splash. The kids are older and we’d really enjoy the lazy rivers and water parks these resorts offer. Any feedback would be super appreciated!!!!!

Profile picture of Rhea

Rhea

Kimberly we are considering Royalton Splash. Just debating on paying for privilege or whatever their upgrade is. Anyone been there and not paid for the privilege option? We’re wondering if we will still get into the a la carte restaurants without it, sometimes you don’t get a chance because the privilege people get in first. There are a lot of a la carted there so hoping that helps.

Profile picture of Kimberly

Kimberly

Rhea I’d recommend joining their fb page and reading through suggestions there! From what I understand there’s not much of a wait if you go before say 8 pm. Which isn’t a problem for us so we won’t be upgrading if we choose that one!
