Is a 7-10 day road trip through the Maritimes too ambitious?

Heading to the maritimes in October. Wanting to go to Halifax, Fredricton, maybe Mocton, Bay of Fundy, Cape Brenton and PEI. Renting a car must be in Gagetown for the 12th .... any suggestions on travel routes or must sees/eats or stays while I’m there. Going for about 7-10 days. Is this to much? Leaving around the 8th. TIA

You’ll never see all they have to offer in 12 days.
St Andrews by the Sea in the Southwest corner of New Brunswick is a must visit. Most tourist attractions will be closed during this time of year across the maritimes.

Plan to do a lot of driving and go to grocery stores to stock up on picnic foods in case u can’t find a restaurant. Yes, it’s very rural outside of towns.
Arriving in NS? A night or two in Halifax-Citadel Hill, brew pubs.
Like the ocean? Peggy’s Cove is a must, then to Lunenberg and Mahone Bay and stay the night. Then head to Annapolis Royal for a night, also very charming. Hit the hwy and head to Cape Breton for more driving and spectacular views, fall colour. Stay one night on the Cape, maybe two. Next PEI, Cavendish Beach is beautiful with Charlottetown as a base for one night maybe two at most. Then NB, and I can’t speak to it. Lmk if ?

So awesome! Thank you! I’ll be going solo to visit my son and to travel a bit. Good to know about buying food.

Where are you flying into and out of? Assuming they're different that would make things easier. I'd likely go Halifax to Cape Bretton. Cape Bretton to Digby, ferry to Saint John and then Fredericton unless something's really pulling you to Moncton.

I was looking into flying into Halifax then out of Fredricton .... or vise versa ... I have to be in Gagetown on the 12 for my sons graduation from military training right smack in the middle of my time.
lol typical.

Exploring the Maritimes in October

Heading to the Maritimes in October can be a wonderful experience as you get to witness the stunning fall foliage and enjoy the charming coastal towns. With your itinerary including Halifax, Fredericton, Moncton, Bay of Fundy, Cape Breton, and PEI, you are in for a treat!

Travel Routes

Since you will be renting a car and need to be in Gagetown by the 12th, it's recommended to start your journey in Halifax and then make your way towards Fredericton, Moncton, Bay of Fundy, Cape Breton, and finally PEI. This route will allow you to cover all the destinations on your list while ensuring you reach Gagetown on time.

Must-Sees/Eats/Stays

  • Halifax: Don't miss the historic waterfront, Peggy's Cove, and the Halifax Citadel. For eats, try fresh seafood at The Bicycle Thief.
  • Fredericton: Explore the charming downtown area and visit the Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market. Stay at the Quartermain House Bed & Breakfast for a cozy experience.
  • Moncton: Visit Magnetic Hill and the Hopewell Rocks in the Bay of Fundy. Enjoy a meal at Tide & Boar Gastropub.
  • Cape Breton: Drive the Cabot Trail for breathtaking views and stay at the Keltic Lodge Resort & Spa for a luxurious experience.
  • PEI: Explore the red cliffs of Cavendish Beach and indulge in fresh lobster at New Glasgow Lobster Suppers.

Going for 7-10 days should give you enough time to explore all these destinations without feeling rushed. Since you are leaving around the 8th and returning by the 12th, it's important to plan your itinerary carefully to make the most of your trip.

Enjoy your adventure in the Maritimes!

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!
