Rent a car and drive around! Tons of great beaches along the eastern coast. Drive up to north shore too. We loved just driving around and exploring, beautiful driving scenery too. We also really enjoyed our ATV tours at Kuoloa Ranch. Stunning mountains.

Do a couple of nights max in HNL, unless you plan to check out the north shore of Oahu...but Kauai is your best bet for less tourists and sheer beauty (Waimea Canyon, Hanalei Bay, etc....). Maui is also amazing (great beaches, road to hana, Haleakala volcano)
A car is highly recommended!

Adventurous Recommendations for Hawaii

If you're looking for a more adventurous experience in Hawaii, there are plenty of options beyond the typical tourist attractions. Here are some recommendations for where to stay and go:

Where to Stay:

1. Oahu:

While Honolulu is a popular tourist destination, you can escape the crowds by staying in more secluded areas like the North Shore or the Windward Coast. These areas offer beautiful beaches, great surf spots, and a more laid-back vibe.

2. Maui:

Consider staying in Hana on the eastern side of the island for a more off-the-beaten-path experience. Hana is known for its lush landscapes, waterfalls, and black sand beaches. It's the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature.

3. Big Island:

If you're looking for adventure, consider staying near Volcanoes National Park. You can explore lava tubes, hike through rainforests, and even witness an active volcano. It's a truly unique experience that you won't find anywhere else.

Where to Go:

1. Kauai:

Known as the "Garden Isle," Kauai is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. You can hike the Na Pali Coast, kayak along the Wailua River, or take a helicopter tour of the island's stunning landscapes. Don't miss the Waimea Canyon, often referred to as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific."

2. Molokai:

If you're looking for a more authentic Hawaiian experience, consider visiting Molokai. This quiet island is home to the highest sea cliffs in the world, pristine beaches, and a strong sense of Hawaiian culture. You can hike to remote waterfalls, learn about traditional Hawaiian practices, and relax on secluded beaches.

3. Lanai:

Lanai is often overlooked by tourists, making it a great destination for those seeking a more peaceful retreat. You can explore the Garden of the Gods, snorkel in crystal-clear waters, or hike to the Puu Pehe (Sweetheart Rock) lookout for breathtaking views. It's the perfect place to unwind and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Whether you choose to stay on one island or hop around to a few, Hawaii offers endless opportunities for adventure and exploration. From hiking and surfing to snorkeling and stargazing, there's something for everyone to enjoy in this tropical paradise.
