So many places.....think more about where you want to be....near termini....easy access to buses and both metro lines? Or is trastavere....the hip neighbourhood....across the tiber and easily walkable....but you would need a taxi to get there when you arrive? Or near tje coloseum.....ambiance.....or near the vatican?
Termini my go to, has so many hotels every building has at least one and with air b&b....the choices are seemingly endless....look at reviews, stars security and flights of stairs.... Not many elevators and the fifth floor walkup....might be 10 to 12 flights of stairs. Then choose.

we went in July last year and it was VERY hot.. like +42 with humidity so if you like to be very hot and sweaty, go then, haha. I did read some articles that a lot of little shops are closed in August as that's when the Italian families take their holidays. We found it best to rent a suite from vrbo. We rented a large suite for 3 nights of our honeymoon and then a penthouse for 2 nights which had a rooftop terrace with a hot tub. It was lovely. It was in the Trastevere district with lots of places to walk to and eat.

it goes to and from airport as well if you are going anywhere else like Pisa, Florance, Naples or Venice. Around Rome, just take the bus...really easy from both mentioned hotels. Get a Rick Steves guide book not only does it tell you what to see, but what you are looking at when you get there. He includes city maps that are great. We have been to Italy twice (was there this past July). I have spent 17 days in Rome...lots to see and do. The Sunday flea market is awesome...you cant see it all. Take tours of the Vatican but you can see most sights without them. Food can be cheap with the average tourist menu from 7 to 10 euro per person. We walk a lot, Rome is very compact and walkable. Most sights are half hour walk from the Lancelot. Because so many buses go to the coliseum its easy to get around from the Lancelot also.

We stayed at a beautiful air bnb. Very close to the Coliseum. The owner drove us to the airport and was very friendly and helpful. We were there in August which was a little too hot, but the nights were wonderful. If interested I can give you the contact info.

I have included the link. Enzo is a retired doctor and speaks English well. He was great to deal with. Very reliable and informative. Rome has strict rules on rentals and taxes and he follows them. We loved this location and Rome was amazing!

We stayed at Urbana 33 in Rome. It was a little tricky to find - it's a B&B - but it's our favourite hotel we've ever stayed in. 10-15 minute walk to the Colosseum, near the train station, very reasonable rates. It is actually a full private apartment, complete with a kitchen.

Relais Fontana di Trevi - rooms were very large and was in an awesome location had a great breakfast included with views of the Trevi Fountain. Lots of good shopping and restaurants within walking distance, close to Spanish Steps and Via Vento for shopping. There is an awesome little restaurant just about a block or so to the right as you exit the hotel and I can't remember the exact name but it was something like Chianti or had that in the name and it was excellent!!

I would avoid the summer months. We went in September and the weather was still great but the days are shorter so our local cab driver said May was a great time because the days are longer to explore more, the weather is warming up and it's not high season like in the summer. I thought that was good information but personally have not been there in May myself.

Teesha few are planning on going late September, thank you so much for this information very helpful.

Sharon you're very welcome. I loved Italy!! Been dreaming to go back. We were there in 2008. I wouldn't go in the summer or winter. You'll be good with Sept! I think spring and/or fall are perfect! ENJOY!

PS I looked up the restaurant name and it is called "IL CHIANTI", the pasta is homemade and the food is really good and very very reasonably priced for an area near a "tourist trap" such as the Trevi Fountain. Also have a dinner in the plazza near the Pantheon at night. I can't remember the name of that particular restaurant. It was pricey there but the atmosphere was MAGICAL and SO worth the splurge!

Hotel San Anselmo is where we stayed. One of our parties struggled with the walking the hills so you have to be capable of walking hills. It was well kept, affordable, had a delicious breakfast, and safe and good. I liked it. There are better ones for sure but you'll also pay more. It's near the coliseum.

I travel with my Italian husband to Italy every summer. AVOID August because this is when the Italians take their vacation. It's extra crowded.

We went end August and beginning September. Humid and warm but nothing over 34 deg. I usually hate the heat but it feels much different there. It was a tad busy but not overly. Lots of shops and such still open despite many Italians taking vacation at that time.

October has very comfortable temperatures. We really liked Hotel Nerva, right across from the Forum and a couple blocks from the Colosseum - family run, very helpful staff, good breakfasts, comfortable.

Rome Marriott Park Hotel
Near the airport but a great shuttle service. Summer is very hot, shoulder season is cooler but still nice. Two things to see outside of Rome are the Gardens of Ninfa to the south, and a Etruscan necropolis to the north.

Best Time to Visit Rome and Hotel Recommendations

Rome, the Eternal City, is a captivating destination that beckons travelers from all around the world. Whether you're drawn by its rich history, artistic masterpieces, or vibrant culture, planning the perfect time to visit and finding the right accommodation can make your Roman adventure truly unforgettable.

The Best Time to Visit Rome

The best time to visit Rome largely depends on your preferences and travel goals. Here are some insights to help you plan your trip:

Spring (April-May)

Spring is often considered one of the best seasons to visit Rome. The weather is pleasantly warm, with average temperatures ranging from 15°C to 23°C (59°F to 73°F). The city is adorned with blooming flowers, and the crowds are relatively smaller than during the peak summer months. However, be prepared for occasional rain showers.

Summer (June-August)

Summer in Rome can be hot and humid, with temperatures reaching up to 32°C (90°F). While this is the busiest tourist season, the long daylight hours and numerous outdoor events make it an appealing time to visit. However, be prepared for larger crowds and higher accommodation prices.

Fall (September-November)

Fall is another excellent time to visit Rome. The weather is mild, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), making it comfortable for sightseeing. The crowds thin out after the summer rush, and you may find better deals on accommodation and airfare.

Hotel Recommendations in Rome

Rome offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit various budgets and preferences. Here are some highly recommended hotels to consider:

Luxury Hotels

  • Hotel Hassler Roma: Located at the top of the Spanish Steps, this iconic hotel offers breathtaking views, luxurious amenities, and impeccable service.
  • Hotel de Russie: A Rocco Forte Hotel situated between the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo, boasting a lush garden, elegant rooms, and a Michelin-starred restaurant.

  • Hotel Artemide: A stylish and eco-friendly hotel in the heart of the city, with comfortable rooms, a rooftop bar, and excellent service.

Budget-Friendly Hotels

  • Hotel Lancelot: A family-run hotel in the Navona area, providing clean and comfortable rooms at reasonable prices.
  • Hotel Santa Prassede: A simple yet cozy hotel near the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, offering great value for money.

Remember, it's always advisable to book your accommodation well in advance, especially during peak seasons, to secure the best rates and availability.

No matter when you choose to visit Rome, this timeless city promises to captivate you with its ancient wonders, vibrant culture, and delectable cuisine. Start planning your unforgettable Roman adventure today!
