Bali is nice, don't bother going to Jakarta (I was born there), it's not that nice. I stayed in a touristy hotel in Bali, it's nice but expensive. If it's your first time there and you don't know anyone, I'd stick to the tourist areas and stay at a hotel there. Kuta Beach is pretty touristy.

Look up Ubud, it's got a chiller vibe than all the touristy places like Kuta

Stay out of Kuta beach - those videos you see of the garbage in the ocean in Bali were probably filmed there.
Ubud is pretty cool but by far my favourite spot in Bali was Nusa Lembongan. We rented an amazing little cabin for super cheap with a pool (I’m sorry, I don’t remember the name but I think we found it on booking.com)
Enjoy Bali!

I would second Nusa Lembongan, and to avoid Kuta with all of your being!!

Ubud and Nusa. If hotels say 4 star it's really about a 3 star.

Melanka so what should i be looking for then? Was thinking to uss vrbo to find a house rental?

TC I've heard air bnb too. Yes, very beautiful. Some of the day trips by bus are pretty good too.

I would say rent a scooter (or if ur teens are old enough to) bali is beautiful and so are the rice fields of ubud. I used air bnb for the entire week i was there. It was a lot more affordable that way.

I went for 15 days and you must book a bike trip in Ubud and there was two tour guides and two vans with snacks and water and after it was all done we had a 5 course buffet late lunch/dinner all for under 40.00. They picked us up at each Hotel, amazing trip. Also the best temple was Ubud Tanah Lot. Stay at a hotel that has a pool and close enough to walk everywhere in Bali. I stayed at a very nice 4 Star Hotel 20 minutes away from Hotel which was a very convienant walking location to al the great restaurants. All the tours are very reasonably priced.

Nusa Lembongan is a MUST if you’re going all the way to Indo.

I also stayed on Lembongan. It was certainly beautiful, though a real small island, I felt it was more a relaxation destination, may not be the best choice with teens. Though for a couple of nights wonderful to see!

Thanks so much! And does the canadian dollar go far down there? What about spas? Massage?

Profile picture of Amanda

Amanda

Far. And massages are cheap. Scooter rental should only be 20 CAD a day. And food 4-8$ a meal approx.

I find unless you speak Indonesian they will try to rip u off in bali (i had to really bargain hard and walk away a lot) be careful about get taxis cause they will try to rip u off. Most of the tours are very affordable, I think the most I spent was on my scuba diving lessons. Food for locals (not tourist traps) are pretty cheap. But your stomach may not be up for it.

Vivien will probably get dukkeral 2 months before hand lol

Spas are good and so are the massages but be careful and make sure that they are clean. you pay for what you get. I had a few on the beach by the locals and they were only 6.00 Each for one hour but you are not at Spa Utopia???? Food was excellent and I did not get sick and tried everything. Seafood was amazing had many dishes all great. Beer was 2.00 to 3.00 dollars local stores or just the locals selling from a cooler. Restaurant price was always under 4.50 for a beer. Wine is more pricey. Make sure you get a good tour company and not someone that is not known it will be a disaster... be aware...Go on the social Shopper and they have the company that I used for all my tours. very affortable. Social Shopper tour for Bali. Use them. There was 20 of us and we had no problems..I had over 6 tours.Every meal was amazing and cheap except for the seafood but we had over 6 main courses of seafood. 75.00 including 3 beers and a full 6 course seafood dinner including tip. In Vancouver that would have been far more then double. Safe travels. Enjoy.

Avoid Kuta. Stay at Merthayasa 2 Bungalows in Ubud (I go every year and it's super affordable). Wayan is like my Bali mom and she'll help you with whatever you need! Merthayasa 2 Bungalows x
