Goa is a must! Lots of great beaches and very clean overall. Since it used to be a Portuguese colony in the olden days there is a lot of culture to see. Also, most residents speak English, which makes it easier for all the westerners that visit.

South India is beautiful - not sure if you're wanting to go to major cities but Bangalore, Chennai & Coimbatore great. Ooty is a little hill station town that's beautiful. I would highly recommend doing a tour of the south - Kerala as mentioned in previous comments is quite beautiful and these are safe areas to go to. I wouldn't recommend going to Mumbai if you're traveling alone.

I'm sure you are aware of the risks as a female whilst traveling solo in most regions of India and Pakistan. Do not take risks. An amazing country with so much variation.

Definitely aware of the risks as I've been a few times but since I'll be alone this time, figured I'd start planning early. I'm hoping knowing the language and culture will work in my favor....thanks for the advice Corinne!

My bucket list... Munnar, coonoor, Pondicherry. Kerala should be nice. Also consider visiting temples in south India. Sikkim is supposedly beautiful . You could consider homestays on some plantations in the south. I believe uttarakhand is beautiful too. Ladakh landscape is amazing from what I've seen but October may not be ideal.

Planning a Solo Trip to India?

Traveling alone can be a thrilling experience, especially in a diverse and vibrant country like India. Since you've been to Delhi and Punjab before, it's great that you're looking to explore new cities this time around. Here are some recommendations on cities to visit and things to avoid during your solo trip in October:

Cities to Visit:

  • Mumbai: Experience the bustling city life, visit iconic landmarks like the Gateway of India, and indulge in delicious street food.
  • Jaipur: Explore the Pink City's majestic forts, vibrant markets, and rich cultural heritage.
  • Varanasi: Witness the spiritual side of India by visiting this ancient city on the banks of the Ganges River.
  • Goa: Relax on beautiful beaches, enjoy water sports, and immerse yourself in Goa's laid-back vibe.

Things to Avoid:

  • Overcrowded Places: Be cautious in crowded areas to avoid pickpocketing and scams.
  • Unsafe Areas: Research and avoid areas known for high crime rates, especially at night.
  • Unhygienic Food: Be mindful of where you eat to avoid getting sick during your trip.

Remember to trust your instincts, stay aware of your surroundings, and be respectful of local customs and traditions. India is a beautiful country with warm and welcoming people, so don't hesitate to interact with locals and immerse yourself in the culture.

Have a safe and unforgettable solo trip to India in October!

Happy travels!
