Been about 10yrs since I last visited Waikiki and looking for some recommendations for restaurants and must try eats (best shrimp truck, shaved ice, etc). Also, planning to visit the North Shore & Kailua for the first time. Any must dos/attractions to check out? Thanks in advance!

For a quick take out lunch in Waikiki, steak shake was really good.
Island vintage shave ice in Waikiki was our favourite treat.
The Kahuku Sugar Mill by Turtle Bay on the north shore was a fun stop for some food trucks. The Sunrise Shack across from Sunsrt Beach - good Açai bowls and coffee.
Haleiwa Joes Haiku Garden was beautiful and delicious. They don’t take resos so you have to go early. 15 mins north of Kailua but so worth it. We also did the Kaneohe Sandbar tour with Kaneohe Bay Ocean Sports and loved it. There are some mixed reviews but the lunch was great, love music was amazing and the sandbar itself was just a fun place to hang out and paddle board/kayak/snorkel.

Go to the flea market at the football stadium, I think it’s Wednesday and Sunday (check dates in advance). I have bought many beautiful things there especially photography of the islands (I have framed).

In the city, Helena’s has the best pipikaula you’ll ever find, and everything is authentic Hawaiian and delicious. Closer to Waikiki, go up Kapahulu. There you’ll find Haile’s which has amazing local grinds, Ono’s Seafood for the best and freshest poke, and Waiola Shave Ice, which is (I’ve been told) the oldest stand on the island. The one off Kapahulu is around the corner on Mokihana St. For more of what the locals eat, Rainbow Drive-In (also Kapahulu, just past the zoo) has solid two scoop lunches, and Diamond Head Market and Grill is always delicious (it’s on the road that runs along the south side of the zoo, Montserrat). Also up Monserrat is the KCC Farmer’s Market, which is every Saturday morning. Fresh local fruit and some interesting lunch options. Lastly, for scampi, you’re better off getting out of the city. Try either Giovanni’s or Fumi’s, both about halfway to the North Shore along the Kamehameha Highway. Have a great time!
