We got a package that split 3 nights in Havana, 4 nights in Veradero. It was awesome! The Havana nights were not at an all inclusive, but I found the food better. You could go out and get authentic Cuban food, which is REALLY good, better than the Americanized food they try to make in the all inclusive. We hired a classic car with a driver and a tour guide and spent a day just touring around Havana. It was great! If you're interested in beaches, then Havana isn't the place. Beaches are rocky there, but Veradero beaches were amazing!

How many days are you thinking? Havana is worth a few days, can take the hop on hop off bus, there are free walking tours, and just exploring old Havana and along the malecon is really nice. There is more food selection variety in the city, but the inclusives have various international buffets too. Cuban food is pretty good, lots of meat (more pork) and rice, fish if you’re closer to the coast. We accidentally brought home some CUC, so if you’re looking to exchange some cash beforehand, just let me know!
Viñales is also worth a visit, it’s one of the most beautiful towns. And staying in casa particulars is easy, just book through airbnb! Many of them will offer breakfast, and generally give you a lot of food, we typically didn’t need lunch after.

There is a saying 'you dont go to Cuba for the food'...variety and lots of it in all inclusives but all tastes the same. Spirits watered down... but good service and lovely people.,

Carol thanks that is what I heard about the food.

Carol We found the food was very enjoyable and good. Never had a watered down cocktail. You must have stayed in an all inclusive. You should have gone to Havana for a more authentic experience.

Go to Cayo Coco. All beaches are beautiful and the people are amazing anywhere in Cuba. Havana is far from there but is a must see.

If there is a split trip btwn Varadero and Havana, I highly recommend it. It's not offered all the time, depends on the season. You also have to be aware of who's offering it - if it's WJ Vacations, you'll likely have to red eye to Toronto and catch a flight there. I haven't seen anything direct from YVR with them, at least when I've been looking.
Resort food certainly isn't the best in comparison to an all inclusive in say MX - but still good. However, if you eat off site - especially in Havana - you'll find some amazing and inexpensive food. I ate a few places in Havana and each offered some of the best food I've had.

Thinking of Going to Cuba in March?

Cuba is a beautiful and fascinating country with a lot to offer visitors. If you're thinking of going in March, here are a few suggestions:

Which City?

Havana is the capital of Cuba and a great place to start your trip. It's a vibrant city with a rich history and culture. There are plenty of things to see and do in Havana, including visiting the Old Town, taking a salsa lesson, or enjoying a mojito at a rooftop bar.

Other popular cities in Cuba include Santiago de Cuba, Trinidad, and Viñales. Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city in Cuba and has a rich Afro-Cuban culture. Trinidad is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its colonial architecture. Viñales is a beautiful valley in western Cuba and is a great place to go hiking or horseback riding.

Hotels

There are a variety of hotels to choose from in Cuba, from budget-friendly options to luxury resorts. If you're looking for an all-inclusive experience, there are several resorts that offer this option. Some popular all-inclusive resorts in Cuba include the Meliá Habana, the Iberostar Parque Central, and the Blau Varadero.

What's the Food Like?

Cuban food is a mix of Spanish, African, and Caribbean influences. It's typically hearty and flavorful, with dishes like ropa vieja (shredded beef), arroz con pollo (chicken with rice), and black beans. Cuba is also known for its delicious fruit, so be sure to try some of the local mangoes, pineapples, and papayas.

Tips for Planning Your Trip

* Book your flights and accommodation in advance, especially if you're traveling during peak season.
* Get a visa before you travel. You can get a visa from the Cuban embassy or consulate in your home country.
* Bring plenty of sunscreen, insect repellent, and cash.
* Be prepared for some culture shock. Cuba is a different country with different customs and traditions.
* Have fun! Cuba is a beautiful and fascinating country with a lot to offer visitors.
