Hi! Heading to Okinawa Japan in early September for 5 nights. Looking for recommendations on best beaches to visit, places to eat and accommodation or areas in which to stay! Thanks in advance!

I’m heading there the first week of November. 3 nights in Naha and 3 nights in the beach in Nago. My sister in law has been there and said 2 days in Naha city is more than enough. I was also told if you have a kid, might be easier to rent a car if you plan to explore the island.

Kumejima is an island of Okinawa and was a really beautiful natural setting. Kind of a long boat ride, though. Great snorkelling and scuba diving there.

Tokashiki island is amazing. Easy ferry ride from Naha. Naha city has some fun places to check out. The palace was definitely a highlight. If beaches are what you are after I would spend my time on the smaller islands like tonaki or tokashiki.

Susan Were some beaches open when you went? I heard they're closed but I wasn't sure if that means no one's allowed to go in or there aren't any services on the beach that are open.

We were there several years ago. It's super hot in the summer. There is a beautiful orchid garden on the main island, also a large cave thats open to tourists. I did see some of the special kimono painting that they do there.Bingata painting is interesting and look for examples of Ryukyu glass.

Chantan area is great for beaches and accommodations, as well as being close to the American Village. ANA intercontinental is a nice hotel by Manza beach, and Cape Manzamo. If you’re up for it, you can go for a hike, but the heat during September may be tough.
Try Okinawa soba, at a soba-yah. It’s different from ramen, and is served in a clear pork broth with braised pork slices that just fall apart.
I also love visiting this small resto called Kazami in Naha for sashimi. The quality and reasonable prices makes me want to go back everytime we go back to Okinawa
