What are the best non-gambling activities in Las Vegas for a 30th birthday celebration?

Question:

Traveling to Las Vegas for my 30th birthday and am looking for suggestions on fun and exciting things to do and where to eat (buffets!! & anything else as we’re all huge foodies) not a big gambler so any other suggestions welcomed!

The buffet at The Wicked Spoon is fantastic!

If you're a huge foodie, don't go to buffets. I got nauseous even walking by them watching people shovel gorgeous mounds of food onto a plate. Avoid avoid avoid. I mean, unless you like that kinda stuff.

Profile picture of Rachel

Rachel

Sunny yes I’m a foodie who loves buffets! Lol

Profile picture of Sunny

Sunny

Rachel Then you're good. The food at some of them is often beautiful but I can't eat around people shoving stuff down their throats. Like I see people literally mound 10 cakes on a plate and it's all squashed together. Just get up again? Do you really need 10? I love Vegas but it's such a wasteful place. I had an incredible meal at Thomas Keller's restaurant and Robuchon in the mgm grand is next level. It's one of the few cities where you can sample a famous chef's food without breaking the bank. Neon sign museum is great and we also drove out to Boulder City and Red Rock. If you wanna good gay time, Piranha's is a very friendly small gay club with a mixed crowd and unlimited booze. It's really fun. Oh, and Mexican food of course. El Gordo, a few places downtown.

http://carsonkitchen.com/http://carsonkitchen.com/ This is my favourite restaurant there. Downtown. Walk about 3 min outside of the downtown strip. The fried chicken skins, jerk burger, tater tots... The deviled eggs are a must. Don't get the bacon jam.

The Mike Hammer comedy magic show at the Four Queens Hotel on Fremont is probably the best $20 I’ve ever spent.

I didn't think Lotus of Siam was thaaaaaat good. Not worth the wait or reservation bullshit. Chinatown has tons of other great restaurants. China Mama is great. I liked many of the restaurants in Aria. Classy but not crazy expensive. Look up happy hours. It's usually cheap booze and $5 apps. I often just sit at a machine, put in $1 and get a free drink or two. Always tip them of course.

The Cheesecake Factory in Caesars. Cirque MJackson show is awesome and Celine Dion before she leaves. Aquarium at Mandalay Bay is great too. And if you over do it...lol...oxygen bar to recoup. I believe there are a few locations. We went to the one at the Venician. There is also an ice bar in the Venetian where you can go have drinks. Didn't have time to go but it looked like fun. Have a great birthday!

You can go to the shows,a music concert, you have to take a helicopter tour at night. Lots of clubs and nice cocktail bars, pool parties, soo much to see and do while in Vegas. Take your time and walk.and explore the strip and freemont street. Go to the top of the stratosphere if you like adrenaline rides.

How many days will you be there? We also did a day trip to Hoover's Dam, Route 66 and the Grand Canyon. There is also this buffet that unfortunately we learned about only when we were leaving. Heard it's a good price and many selections. You can take a free shuttle to it at the terminal behind The Linq. Can't remember the name at this time.

If you haven't had it before, you can try Giordano's pizza, too.

We stayed at the Venetian and it was lovely...we are not much for long time gambling so saw Rod Stewart...check the shows and concerts for tickets online...many to see...otherwise we ate and shopped...in the past we rented a car and drove to the Hoover Dam and into the Red Rock Canyon...gets you out for the day...

If you’re willing to venture off the strip:
1. Lotus of Siam for delicious Thai food but book well in advance online
2. Firefly Tapas Kitchen & Bar
(We stayed at the Palazzo and both were a 10 min drive away)
3. Crepe Expectations (that was a bit further, around a 20 min drive, but amazing sweet and savoury options)
The Void was a really cool VR experience in the Grand Canal Shoppes of the Palazzo. So realistic, we had a blast.
Matt Franco and Piff the Magic Dragon were both entertaining and reasonably priced.
Enjoy your celebrations!

Are you into 90s R and B? - I suggest Boyz II Men!!! Get tickets the day of the show at the cheap ticket outlets around. They throw on a GREAT show..and its fun to let loose when everyone else is so into the show! Rent a car for the day - go to VAlley of Fire state park. It is a good day trip and it's AMAZING....It blew my mind how beautiful it is out there! And Neon Museum - it's a neon signs "graveyard"...they run tours so you find out about vegas' history in an interesting way.

Stay at a hotel that’s on the strip - we use Caesars as the Center point- so if you stay at planet Hollywood, Bellagio, Aria, Paris ... very central. They also have a bus that’s $8 for 24 hr hop on/hop/off which is great

to save money on booze and snacks, take the cab to the wal mart near the airport before checking in. the prices there are much lower than what you'll find on the strip.

Ani this is pure facts. Did this move my last time, highly recommend.

Ok...in all honesty I didn't read others suggestions, if I duplicate, I apologize.
Chef José Andrés' buzzy, modern tapas joint inside the Cosmopolitan with open-fire paella station.
On the strip, easy to get too. When we found this place, I had no idea what we were in for. We are over the top foodies, we live in Toronto, lemme tell ya, this place is an absolute must!!!!!
Jaleo in the Cosmo and do not leave without trying pan Cristal...it's flown in from Spain. They make a mean old fashioned drink too but the food...the fooooooood!

If you ask some resorts have all you can eat buffets at multiple locations for one price for 24 hours. Ex. At Excalibur’s you can also eat at Luxor for 40/day! This saves a ton of cash for all the other stuff you might wanna do like swimming by a shark reef at the Golden Nugget or a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon! Have a great trip!

The foodie in me wants you to visit giordanos in front of Bally’s. Chicago style pizza without having to go to Chicago! Wahlburgers is there too! And you MUST visit the boulevard between the Linq and Flamingo where the Ferris wheel is. Honolulu cookies, sprinkles, ghiaradellis.. all the good stuff !!

If youre feeling adventurous, i recommend trying a dune buggy driving experience! It's a fun activity outside the strip and a great way to see the desert. A fine dining restaurant recommendation would be Lago in Bellagio. Request a table by the back/windows so you can see the fountain

Profile picture of Matt

Matt

I recommend getting wasted, hitting up a pool party, getting wasted again, maybe play some blackjack, while you get wasted, and they bring you free drinks. If you've got some time to waste between the important stuff I listed, there is a shopping mall at the top of the strip, or maybe a show or a museum or something.
