. Our little fam jam had planned to go to Disneyland in June this year, but are a little worried about being turned around at the border. The thought of losing the thousands of dollars we would have paid on pre-booking flights and hotels makes my stomach turn. Any thoughts on this? Any thoughts of other super fun places (not in the US) to go for a family vacation with a 4 year old? Any and all insights welcome!!

Why do you think you'd be turned back at the border? Criminal convictions? If you all have current passports, valid for six months there should be no issue. However, if you prefer not to travel in the USA you could do an all inclusive in Mexico, or visit anywhere in Canada. The east coast is gorgeous, or Toronto area and Niagara have lots of fun things for kids. I'm just wondering if this whole Trump thing is as bad as we imagine, or if it's more fearmongering. They'd need to have a reason to reject you.

They wont turn you away unless they have just cause, as long as you have your documents in order and no criminal convictions you should be good to go

They have turned away Canadian citizens because they were born in one of the countries that isn't approved to travel into the states so maybe that's what she is concerned about.

Linda Cunningham wow. Yup, no more trips to or through the US for us! A friend is going to Pakistan but doesn't want to do through the states and it's like $800 more to not have connecting flights in the US.

If you have any reason that you are concerned about this (that you perhaps don't wish to publicly share) then I highly recommend avoiding the US right now. With Trump's new mandates, I think better safe that sorry. What about Mexico? You can fly direct from Canada and avoid the US. The Mexican people are warm and wonderful. You could try Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, you can get there through Toronto.

Also if you have visited one of the designated 'bad countries'. Recent reports of them demanding access to social accounts that might lead them to statements or opinions they feel go against 'national security'. Strange days indeed.

we just got back from the US & had absolutly zero issues, it was smooth sailing all around, that being said, if you are from the "banned" countries or have any reason to think they could turn you away, as sad & angry as it makes me to say this, then perhaps you change your destination
But Disneyland is one of our favs & it breaks me heart to think anyone might not get to enjoy it because of this garbage. I hope you get to go.

I'm a bit worried because I have a shoplifting / theft conviction from my teenage years (yay clear thinking teenage years!) that has been pardoned, but apparently a pardon doesn't count when traveling to the US. And my husband always gets second screening because he has a super common name and no middle name. We've traveled many times to the states, but this is a different world now. We were planning on going for a big 4th birthday and how sad would we all be if we got turned around! Maybe when California secedes from the states we will go. Lol.

I know someone that was just in the US & had a theft conviction & someone else that had a DUI & they had no problems, I can understnd tho, sometimes it all depends on the agent.

That's indeed scary to think that this could happen to you. I'd very likely look elsewhere under the circumstances. Maybe one day sanity will return to the USA.

A pardon doesn't work for the US you have to get a waiver and it can take a very long time up to a few years and it cost $$$ if you don't do it your self. Its about 600.00 if you do.And if you get one it maybe for a year or 5 years it depends .And you have to reapply it's not a onetime thing. It's not hard to do the paper work it's just timely.

Sad to say, but if you do not have a waiver for that teenage decision, I think you are right to be concerned. It's too much of a chance right now. Smart lady to look into it before putting money down.

Yes even if you where just a teen if you get a record it doesn't go away . My husband had to get a waiver and his charges where from 35 years ago.

My son had a DUI when he was 20 yrs old and has had no problems going to US ...he is now 30 yrs old

Because due isn't a felony in US. If he was American trying to come into Canada with DUI on his record, he would need to get a pardon

I think lots of what are being quoted regarding refused entry have always been there. Maybe they are more stringent regarding convictions nowadays. I went in January no problems at all.

The demanding your electronic devices password is newer and happening. I think avoid the states until they start treating people equally and with proper respect again. Lots of other deserving places to try.

We just came back from the Luxury Bahia Principe Fantasia in Punta Cana this weekend! We LOVED it! Very Disney-centric with the castles and characters and Disney music. So many shows and it's a brand new resort. Family oriented, beautiful rooms, welcoming and accomodating staff! Really nothing to complain about. We'd DEFINITELY go back again!

How about a Disney Cruise? Not sure if a 4 year old is quite old enough to really appreciate Disneyland however I suspect Mom and Dad would have a blast.
I see your post now and knowing a Canadian pardon apparently doesn't mean anything, why risk it. I'd find somewhere else to go and steer clear until things "blow over"

I think there are some that leave other places. You could splurge and do DL in Paris!

I'm pretty sure you need a passport and to clear customs if you're going into USA waters.
