How are you traveling between the north and south? Train or flying? Travel can be slower in Vietnam. I loved Hoi An and spent two weeks there. Both Hanoi and HCMC are huge with major traffic jams. In HCMC the war museum is must and I did a half day tour of the old city on the back of a motorcycle- best way to get around. Lots of hotels near the big market and there’s a nice park to walk through. Look at Google maps to find Ben Thanh Market.

Highly recommend joining up with Intrepid Travel (ask for Duke) or Urban Adventures; they're the best! They took care of everything and we had plenty of time to explore.

I used airbnb in Vietnam, was perfect! Hanoi has a great cocktail bar scene, do a bit of research of specific locations; did a personal walk tour of them..was awesome! HaLong Bay, ask your host to book a private boat on the water, don't book on a tour group! Rent scooters to explore HaLong and Ningh Bin, was great exploring! Best food too! Have Bun Cha for lunch and pho for breakfast. Beer sure to cheers 100% at least once and when crossing the street, be consistent, walk normally straight and I promise they will go around you (it's quite a cool experience). It's an amazing country! Enjoy!

Loved the times hotel in Hue. Very basic but very clean and the family was amazing. Good locations. The nook had amazing food!
I can not recommend the hotel in Ho Chi Minh ours had rats in our room on the last night.
Hanoi we stayed at the Hanoi house hostel and travel. But we stayed in a private room with our own bathroom it was one of my favorite hotels in the 35 day trip. It didn’t come across like a hostel. There is new day restaurant cross the street who was amazing as well as lanterns restaurant so amazing!
Would recommend atleast a day trip to Ninh Binh!

We actually loved DaNang (near HoiAn). Good when HoiAn is overflowing with busloads of tourists.

Hello heading to Vietnam for 10 days in October!

I'm excited to explore Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, and Ho Chi Minh during my upcoming trip to Vietnam. If anyone has any recommendations on accommodations or other destinations to visit, I would greatly appreciate it!

Accommodation Recommendations:

  • Hanoi: The Old Quarter is a popular area with many budget-friendly hotels and guesthouses.
  • Halong Bay: Consider staying on a cruise ship to fully experience the beauty of the bay.
  • Hue: Look for accommodations near the Imperial Citadel for easy access to historical sites.
  • Ho Chi Minh: District 1 is a bustling area with plenty of hotels and hostels to choose from.

Other Destinations and Activities:

While in Vietnam, don't miss out on these must-see destinations and activities:

  1. Explore the ancient town of Hoi An and its lantern-lit streets.
  2. Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City for a glimpse into Vietnam's wartime history.
  3. Take a cooking class to learn how to make traditional Vietnamese dishes.
  4. Experience the vibrant nightlife in Hanoi's bustling streets.

Thank you in advance for any recommendations or tips for my trip to Vietnam!
