Question:

I will be backpacking solo around New Zealand for the month of November. Has anyone used the hop-on hop-off buses there and what did you think of them?
Thanks in Advance!

kiwi experience was ok but I loved doing it on my own too!! Used the bus for trans and then stayed longer at the destinations to really get into the culture. Amazing experience

I used OZ experience in Australia, and enjoyed it. I would imagine kiwi Experience is equally good. Way more flexible than traditional bus tours

Solo Backpacking in New Zealand: Hop-on Hop-off Buses

New Zealand is a beautiful country with a lot to offer backpackers. If you're planning on traveling around the country on a budget, hop-on hop-off buses are a great option. These buses allow you to travel between major cities and towns, and you can hop on and off as you please.

There are several different hop-on hop-off bus companies operating in New Zealand. Some of the most popular include:

  • Kiwi Experience
  • Stray Travel
  • InterCity
  • Naked Bus

Each company offers different routes and prices. Kiwi Experience is the most expensive, but it also offers the most flexibility. Stray Travel is a good mid-range option, and InterCity is the most budget-friendly. Naked Bus is a great option for those who are on a tight budget.

If you're planning on using hop-on hop-off buses in New Zealand, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

  • Book your tickets in advance. Hop-on hop-off buses can get crowded, especially during peak season. To avoid disappointment, book your tickets as far in advance as possible.
  • Be flexible with your itinerary. Hop-on hop-off buses are a great way to see the country, but they can also be unpredictable. Buses can get delayed or canceled, and routes can change. Be prepared to be flexible with your itinerary.
  • Pack light. You'll be doing a lot of walking and carrying your luggage on and off the bus. Pack light so you don't have to lug around a heavy backpack.

Overall, hop-on hop-off buses are a great way to see New Zealand on a budget. They're flexible, affordable, and a great way to meet other travelers.
