I'm flying into Tokyo on NYE for 12 nights with 2 other friends. Any suggestions on nightlife, and attractions/sights? Also, looking for recommendations for how long we should stay in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, etc. Thanks!

Is this your first time? What district are you in? We stayed in gotanda near the yamata loop so that is my reference point. Also depends what you like to see

Having been to Japan a few times, if I had 12 days I would split:
Tokyo 5 days - shibuya tokyu excel
Hakone 1 day - mount view hakone
Osaka 4 - cross hotel, do day trip to kobe and himeji from here
Kyoto 2 - hotel sunline
My wife would probably argue to take a day from tokyo or osaka and add to kyoto

Taylor I'd say take a day out of Osaka and add to Kyoto!
Also, I really enjoyed Hiroshima and that really only needs one day

New Years day is going to be crowded at all the shrines, so unless you really want to see them that day I'd steer clear. Also, New Years day tends to be like our Christmas day, everyone is with family. Maybe make new years day a shinkansen day down to Osaka/Kyoto and work your way back... that's what I'd do.

Make sure to check out Akihabara in Tokyo if you are in to anime or gaming, even if you aren't, it's a great experience. In that area there is a Roast Beef Ohno that has an awesome Wagyu beef dish! Go to Harajuku, there's the well known street Takeshita that has insta worthy treats, and close by are some awesome shops and cafes like Dumbo at Galaxy (Samsung). If you are into Disney, check out Disney sea! I love Tokyo, we were just there last week for 8 days
