Looking for some recommendations on 5 star luxury resorts in Mexico. Looking for adults only high end.

Shelby was looking at that one. Have you been recently? Seen a few bad reviews from not to long ago.

Tyler Upgrade to their premium service package at the Palace (this eliminates lines at check in and unlimited dinner reservations, top tier booze, private concierge for tour and dinner reservations etc. In my opinion, less lines are worth it), and get a room in the Oaxaca building - it is ocean front...the other building for premium level guests is in front of the kids pool and all hell breaks loose at 9am with noise from all directions. There is a nice snorkeling area right in front of the hotel and the beach is really quiet there. Its a huge resort so lots to keep you busy if you choose. You are in the hoity toity part, so you can choose from any of the amenities to use throughout the entire resort. This is not the most luxurious resort, but is is probably a good amount of luxury for what it costs.

Tyler we’re going there soon. I heard that “adult-only” area is not separated and there are whole bunch of kids. I’m going with a kid so doesn’t really matter, but it’s not fair to people who trusted the package description

Tyler when we were there kids weren’t allowed in the adults only section. The kids section was the resort next door. So, if you went to the next hotels buffet or restaurants, yes there would be kids. I did not see a single kid in the adult only side.

Sarah ok thank you. Is it kind of worth going over to the other resort or is there plenty of options on the adult side.

Tyler we did one dinner at the Brazilian restaurant option in one of the other resorts but the food is definitely better in the adults only hotel. We would get snacks from the buffet in the hotel next door but there is a buffet and then the lobby bar that has snacks and drinks all day long, even before the pool bars open that is totally fine too.

Chris I’m wondering if we should take the premium upgrade. It’s $1000 on top of $5000 package for three of us. I heard you get free wifi everywhere, better drinks, less waiting time during check-in (is it that bad?), unlim restaurants (some people complained they still couldn’t book it)
Considering the fact that close to 50% of the package is flight, the upgrade is like +50% to the resort price.

Worth it IMO - take advantage of all the things offered so that you really DO get the benefits. Use the concierge to make your reservations for dinners and tours. After travelling all day and getting off a bus, seeing 200 other people checking in - going off to the side for a private check in of your own and being in the room, unpacked with a cocktail in hand before that other line is half done was worth it right there. A private staffed lounge where you can slip in for a quick serve yourself breakfast or snacks, build your own cocktail, grab a water, check e-mails - whatever. If you stay at the Palace, the restaurants have higher end food - good seafood, sea bass - just better quality all around. Some say it isn't worth it - but I think it is just because of the no line ups, less crowded, real Baileys in my coffee, it all depends on what is important to you. It's like buying a basic Chevy pickup vs an Escalade - they both do the same thing and both get you where you want to go - but the escalade is a nicer ride. It's your vacation - splurge! And don't feel guilty about it!

We took Premium upgrade couple years back. Totally worth it. My favorite part was the time at the Spa everyday. Hot tub, sauna, cold bath. It was super.

Chris Ganz I would not rate Secrets as high end. Understaffed and good was mediocre.

The Excellence chain. There is one in Riviera Maya and another in Playa Mujeres. By the far the most luxurious but also expensive. But worth it

Went to secrets The Vine in Cancun for a friend's wedding and it was amazing, food, service, accomodation. All was *chefs kiss* and it's adults only. They have multiple themed restaurants and buffet style food.

Elderado Royale. The only downside was the beach was not as nice as others. No booking alacarte restaurants which was awesome. Just show up! They knew our names after the first day and treated us amazingly!!

Mayakoba properties. Have stayed at Fairmont and it was amazing and you have access to all of the other Mayakoba properties.
