We drove to Montreal specifically so I could get a sandwich... Then made our way to Ottawa.. and came back home to Toronto all in a day. Haha! Really good sandwiches!! Do to the takeout line instead of the sit-down restaurant (really long wait)

If you can't get in there, book the sister restaurant the Liverpool House!

Must go to Olive & gourmando. Go early to minimize wait time or just grab something to go (great brunch items, pastries, paninis) Old Port is okay but can be touristy (and there can be many tourist traps). Hanging out around Atwater Market and canal Lachine is great in the summer. I found Joe Beef to be overrated but that's just my opinion. If you're looking for anything specific, feel free to message me, I'm from Montreal. (Bar big in Japan is a nice little speakeasy, if you can find it

I couldn't have said it better.

Go to get bagels at St Viateur, there is a location on the Plateau which is a nice neighbourhood to visit.
Grace
Great neighborhood. 100% agree! Really nice bagels!

Must visit Montreal Smoked meat (Schwartz) on St. Laurent. World renowned, small and spectacular.
Sharon
An absolute must. Smoked meat, fries and a cherry coke.
Carmen
Marché Atwater and Marché Jean Talon. Bota Bota is an incredible spa with a beautiful view of Vieux Montréal

Make a reservation, order the Gibby's Special... you won't be disappointed!

L'avenue for brunch food is good too; they have a dish called something sucre salé (so it's sweet and salty). It's like ham on French toast with some other delicious things!
Ashley
I second L'Avenue. So good!
Dorothy
I third it! And make sure you visit their bathroom - in the words of a millennial, it is quite lit! (UV light, graffiti...)

A few blocks down from Schwartz's, is the most amazing venezualian restaurant called Arepera. It's small and authentic and well priced.
Check out Arepera on tripadvisor

Have breakfast at Prohibition! It's so good! Go early on the weekend to get seats, could be a line up. Definitely have Schwartz as well! Enjoy

Dieu du Ciel is a great microbrewery with cheap prices ($7.50 for a tasting flight of 3 beers - heck yes!), Hof Kelsten for baked goods and sandwiches (like a homey Panera Bread with a Jewish twist on the menu - veal bacon, challah French toast), Alati-Caserta for
Italian baked goods - eclairs are hit or miss but when you hit that fresh cannoli, you feel like your life is complete again.
My friend and I were there for 3 days and went to 19 restaurants/cafes so feel free to PM me if you need more suggestions!
We basically "ate our way around the city" so we would go to Schwartz or La Banquise and share one dish so we wouldn't get full. It's a great way to sample the city if you're a small eater!
Have a blast
Krys
Dorothy do you still have the list of the 19 restaurants you went to?! I’m also going for 3 days!
Dorothy
Krys Hey Krys - sure do! Can you PM me?

Hey fellow travelers! I am looking for recommendations for food to try, shops to visit, restaurants/cafes, activities to do, and overall things I must see for a weekend in Montreal in June! I only have two days, and am not into super touristy places (unless its a must see). Anything would be greatly appreciated
