Giselle Santoro
Ive been mid October. Literally lived in the same dress for 10 days because I packed for fall. We were still swimming in the sea. Perfect time to go! Everything is open. Less on Sunday’s.
Heidi
Everything is open. Days are beautiful and sunny (mainly) and nights may need a light sweater.
Katharin
Perfect time to go. Layers...not summery colors or florals or you'll stick out like a tourist.
November is wonderful too, then it's a bit of down, a merino t or 2, and blundstones. I'm heading out, Rome and Puglia early October for 2 weeks. Linens and layers in taupe, black and grey.

Check the weather apps a few days before to help you pack.
Sandra

Visiting Italy in Late October: Rome and Florence
Late October is a fantastic time to visit Italy, particularly the iconic cities of Rome and Florence. The weather is still pleasant, and the crowds have thinned out, making it an ideal time to explore these cultural gems.
Weather in Rome and Florence in Late October
Rome and Florence generally experience mild temperatures in late October, with average highs ranging from 68°F to 72°F (20°C to 22°C) and lows around 52°F to 57°F (11°C to 14°C). While the weather is mostly dry, you may encounter occasional rain showers, so it's always a good idea to carry an umbrella or light jacket.
Cafes and Attractions in Rome and Florence
The good news is that most cafes, restaurants, and attractions remain open in Rome and Florence during late October. This period is considered part of the shoulder season, which means you can enjoy fewer crowds and potentially lower prices than the peak summer months.
In Rome, iconic sites like the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums, the Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon are open and operating as usual. You can also savor the city's vibrant café culture by sipping an espresso or indulging in a delicious gelato at one of the many outdoor cafes.
Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, is equally captivating during this time of year. The Uffizi Gallery, the Accademia Gallery (home to Michelangelo's David), the Duomo, and the Ponte Vecchio are all open and welcoming visitors. Additionally, you can stroll through the charming streets, visit local markets, and enjoy the city's renowned cuisine.
Tips for Visiting Rome and Florence in Late October
- Pack layers: The weather can be unpredictable, so it's best to dress in layers to adapt to changing temperatures.
- Book accommodation and tours in advance: While the crowds are smaller than in the summer, it's still advisable to book your accommodation and tours ahead of time to secure your preferred options.
- Explore outdoor attractions: With the mild weather, it's an excellent opportunity to explore outdoor attractions like the Roman Forum, the Piazza Navona in Rome, or the Boboli Gardens in Florence.
- Attend local festivals: Late October is a time for various cultural festivals and events in Italy, such as the White Truffle Fair in Alba or the EurHop Roma beer festival in Rome.
In conclusion, late October is a wonderful time to visit Rome and Florence. With pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and most attractions and cafes open, you can immerse yourself in the rich culture and history of these iconic Italian cities.
