Brisbane is a super safe city. Stay in New Farm, Tenerife or Goma area. Use the river ferries to get around. You can buy a day pass for the public transit
Lori
Thanks Ryan!

We stayed on the Southbank in the Theatre district. Easy to get around from there via public transit. Also very walkable and safe - there's a boardwalk along the river to the Wheel, Riverside Park, ferries, etc.

Australia Zoo, Gold Coast, Sea World.
Deborah
Brisbane is a safe city and easy to wander around through their ferry system. We stayed at a airbnb at the south bank close to the ferry station
Lori
What about beaches Deborah? Can you get to a nice beach via transit?
Deborah
That unfortunately we didn't do because at the end of our stay in Brisbane we rented a car and drove to Sydney and we stopped at any beach we could. It took us almost a week to get to Sydney as we decided to stay at different places by the water before we got to Sydney. Well worth the trip!!

There is transit from the airport to anywhere you need to go pretty much. Byron bay is beautiful and I've spotted the actor who plays Thor there before from the avengers.
Joysika
Take train to Gold coast. Nice beaches there
Pat
The Gold Coast is amazing..beaches and shopping... the Outback dinner theatre is amazing, and the theme parks are so much fun.. and of coarse the zoo. (quite aways from the city of Brisbane though)
