There are soo many things to do and eat here.
Let's start by narrowing some things down. What are your interests (museums, archeological sites, etc) and where will you be staying? This will help us determine where you should eat! Also, what week will you be here? Independence Day festivities are on the 15/16th
Ivana
Marie Amaro thanks for replying! I will be going there on Sept 6th for a few days. I’m going to book a Teotihuacan tour, but other than that my options are open. I will be staying at a hotel near the Jardin de las Naciones Unidas and would like to explore cultural landmarks and eat some tasty treats along the way
Marie
Ah ok! You're near Chapultepec park so you'll find a lot of museums there. Check out the Anthropology museum (takes hours, its huge). Museo Tamayo, Modern Art Museum and Chapultepec castle. Thats a lot, so maybe choose 2? If you end up choosing Chapultepec castle let me know! I kind of want to check it out again!
Also, avoid these landmarks on Sundays as it is free for any Mexican citizen to go. Therefore, the lines will be incredibly long.
As for food...what can I say. The food is amazing here! There are little food stands on the street you can eat at (stick to the popular, busy ones) and there are high end, fine dining places. And everything in between. I find local mercados great for trying authentic, inexpensive food. What is your food budget? I am more of a budget girl but I have been to some fancy places too.
I will post a link to a popular youtube video about food in Mexico City. See what appeals to you and go from there. I honestly don't know where to even begin...there is good food on every corner here.

Also, I will send you the facebook page of a tour company here. They have tours around the city (and country) that are VERY affordable and cater more to local tourists. They might have something of interest for you.

Even if you don't go on one of these tours, this page has a ton of great information in English.

Marie Amaro Museo Soumaya, Frida Kahlo Museum, Palacio de Bellas Artes...try to see a performance....Xochimilco...only if you have time...Zocalo or main square always has something to see, the Cathdral there is amazing as are the ruins...so much to see and do...an amazing city!
Marie
Yes! great places! Great suggestions! Also, with the Frida Kahlo museum...go EARLY early. The lines are always enormous. I live just around the corner and I have never been because...the lines...
Ivana
Marie Amaro Thank you so much for your great suggestions! I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the sites you mentioned
Linda

Ivana
That looks great - thanks!

Xochimilco and teotihuacan !!!
Brenda
Teotihuacan, Ballet Folclorico at Palacio des Bellas Artes, Museo Nacional de Antropologia, Zocalo (include Templo Mayor, Cathedral and do go into National Palace to see Diego Rivera mural). Do not book hotel close to Zocalo though - way too noisy. Eat at Balcon del Zocalo for the view and excellent selection of Mexican wines. Lucha Libre is funny. Frida Kahlo Museum, Casa Azul, only if you would like that kind of art (lineups are long and Museum is small). I’ve heard Plaza Garibaldi is great for mariachi music but did not have time to go. Maybe try a pulqueria if you’re passing by one. You might want to go for a ride in a trajinera at Xochimilco.
Ivana
Thank you!!
Rick
Hotel Prim is walking distance to the Zocalo and the Zona Rosa, . breakie incl. underground parking
Elizabet
My favorite museum was the Folk art museum. Museo de Arte popular.
Ivana
Thanks!
Elizabet
Ivana I did not realize that was you. Have a good trip it is a great city to visit. I also enjoyed my market/food tour to learn about the local food and to try things I never would have tried on my own.
Ivana
Elizabet thanks, I’m really looking forward to it! Do you recommend exchanging money to pesos in Canada or when I get there?
Elizabet
Ivana I had a few peso leftover from a different trip that I brought. Beyond that I just used ATM's not sure if it's the best or not.
