In Florence, I would suggest staying in the Oltrarno area. It’s across the river but a short walk from everything. More authentic restaurants etc. Venice is a tough call depending on what you’re looking for and whether you’ve been there before. Same with Rome. We stayed near the Piazza Del Popolo and liked the area but my sister liked the Pantheon area that was more central. The city is very walkable. Verona is a real delight and is quite a small city that’s easy to walk. We stayed near the Arena. Milan’s Duomo is spectacular but we wished we’d booked less time there. If you have some time, get to Lake Como instead. Have an amazing trip, you’re going to an amazing area!

Is Lake acuoso easy to get to from Florence? We’re flying back to Canada from Rome after visiting Florence so we could do a quick stop there:)

It’s a 45 minute train ride from Milan. Not sure how far from Florence. Are you flying both in and out of Rome?

In Rome a number of years ago we stayed in a triple room at... Hotel Canada. It was a great experience with an old world elegance, convenient location and excellent buffet breakfast. For the best gelato you've probably ever tasted don't miss Il Gelato di San Crispino near Trevi Fountain. The New York Times said of their pear gelato: "After a few bites of pear gelato, you wonder if whether you have ever really tasted a pear before." NYT was right. Only time I've eve gone back for seconds of gelato.
