Punt cana doesnt have much. Santo domingo would be better if you're looking for local accomodations.

My friend lives in Mexico and posted a news story that Merida , Yucatan MX is deemed one safest place in the world! My friend lives in a small town close by and does her shopping @ Merida. I’m going to double check the spelling for you.
It’s on the Caribbean side close to Cancun.
