Just came back from Japan in October, I'd recommend joining the Facebook group Japan travel planning. Was an incredible resource for me in terms of planning

Really?? You’ve been to Japan many times but never Tokyo?? That’s funny
but yes it’s awesome! Soooo much to do. Shibuya crossing and shopping in area. Shinjuku is great but even better is the park that’s there. Lots of cool themed restaurants. Seeing the city from the top of the metropolitan tower. Only thing I regretted seeing in Tokyo was the palace. It was an utter waste of time as you don’t actually see the palace. Just the grounds. And it ain’t anything special (I was actually mad lol because they make you walk for ages to get to nothing)

Zahra Hoveyda I used to go to Nagoya once a year for work.Only spent one day/night in Shinjuku.

I highly recommend getting tickets for TeamLab Planets, what an amazing experience. We went later in the evening on a weeknight and it was dead in there. One of my Tokyo highlights. Otherwise...
- Walking around Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Akihabara is fun
- Yoyogi Park and Shinjuku Gyoen Gardens are nice if you're craving some greenery
- Pokemon Centre and Aquarium at Sunshine City
- If you're a Disney fan, I looooved DisneySea. It's so much different than any other Disney park in the world.
- Robot Restaurant is a fun time if you're into kitsch and over-the-top lights and robots.

Janna I also did teamlab planets and it was amazing! We went midday during the week and didn't have to wait
I also like harajuku, Shibuya, and Shinjuku. The sumo wrestling area is called Ryoguku. We got tickets to a sumo demo because regular sumo matches were out of season at the time... We got tickets on viator, and this was a big hit with everyone!
Andrew
Despite the name - don’t eat at the robot restaurant. Just go for the show
Janna
Andrew Agreed, I've heard the food is not great. They do have popcorn you can buy though!
Tom
Janna Teamlab Planets looks amazing, already did the Robot Resto but would go again if buddy is into it
Kerop
We went to restaurant where Kill Bill & crazy 88 scene were shot. Also, went to live fish market at 5 am to watch tuna auction. If you can catch the season, there is sumo fight trainings or tournaments. Japanese pancakes are killer. Must try pod hotels.
Zeena
Kerop awesome to be at the resto
Tom
Kerop I gotta try the pod hotels, and the new Tsukiji whatever its called now
Rosanna
Teamlab! I didnt get the chance to go to this but have only heard great things. Go see a baseball game! Studio Ghibli (gotta get tickets a month prior via lottery purchase), Shimokitazawa! Maricar if you have the chance. Yoyogi Park will be lovely for Cherry Blossoms and same with kiyomizu-dera temple. I went apr 2017 and have my itinerary all up on my blog http://boketto.rosannau.com/

Awesome! I lived in Tokyo for 2 years and I've been in the suburbs just outside the city for a year now, it's a really special place
In terms of pay experiences, you should definitely check out TeamLab Borderless Digital Art Museum! Here are some things you can also do for free while you're here
Enjoy your trip!!

Exploring Tokyo: A Must-See Adventure in Shinjuku
As an experienced traveler to Japan, you're no stranger to the wonders this fascinating country has to offer. However, Tokyo, with its vibrant energy and endless attractions, is a destination that demands its own exploration. Starting your journey in the heart of Shinjuku is an excellent choice, as this bustling district promises an unforgettable experience.
Shinjuku's Neon-Lit Allure
Shinjuku is renowned for its electrifying atmosphere, particularly at night when the streets come alive with neon lights and a pulsating energy. One of the must-see attractions in this area is the iconic Kabukicho district, known for its vibrant nightlife and entertainment options. Wander through the winding alleys and immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells of this lively neighborhood.
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
If you need a respite from the city's hustle and bustle, visit the serene Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. This expansive park offers a tranquil oasis in the heart of Tokyo, featuring meticulously landscaped gardens, traditional Japanese architecture, and cherry blossom trees (if you're visiting during the right season). Take a leisurely stroll, admire the natural beauty, and perhaps even participate in a traditional tea ceremony.
Godzilla Head and Robot Restaurant
For a true taste of Tokyo's quirky and unique attractions, visit the iconic Godzilla Head at the Toho Building and experience the mind-blowing spectacle of the Robot Restaurant. The Godzilla Head is an impressive 49-foot-tall statue that pays homage to the legendary monster, while the Robot Restaurant offers an unforgettable show combining robots, dancers, and vibrant lights in a dazzling display of Japanese pop culture.
Culinary Adventures
No trip to Tokyo would be complete without indulging in the city's incredible culinary scene. Shinjuku offers a diverse range of dining options, from traditional izakaya pubs to high-end sushi restaurants. Some must-try experiences include:
- Sampling the delicious ramen at one of the many ramen shops scattered throughout the district.
- Trying the famous Kobe beef at a renowned steakhouse.
- Exploring the vibrant Omoide Yokocho, a network of narrow alleys lined with tiny eateries and izakaya.
With its electrifying energy, rich cultural heritage, and seemingly endless attractions, Shinjuku promises an unforgettable experience in Tokyo. Embrace the chaos, explore the neon-lit streets, and immerse yourself in the unique blend of tradition and modernity that defines this vibrant district.

Going to Tokyo end of April. Not a newbie to Japan by any means but almost total virgin to Tokyo. Thinking of starting in Shinjuku. What are some must sees and dos?
