Hi everyone, I’m heading to Prague around the end of August. Does anyone have any recommendations for affordable but descent hotels? Would like to stay in the old town or close to that area. Also looking for some tips for good local restaurants... not the tourist traps! Thanks in advance!

We just stayed in Prague at this airbnb a couple weeks ago and it was great! It is right in the middle of everything, walking distance to the Old Towne which is 5 mins away. It's also just around the corner from the place Lokal which Diane mentioned! Great place for good, cheap food and beer!

Have you heard about youtube's Honest Guide? They have great tips what to do, where to eat, etc. in Prague. https://www.youtube.com/.../UCt7oj318jVQi7vRbc1bNjJA/videos
As for restaurants, I just love Restaurant Pod Věží: http://www.podvezi.com/restaurant-pod-vezi - they also serve lunch specials that are cheaper than regular menus.
As mentioned above, Prague has an excellent public transit system - metro, buses and trams. So you don't have to stay right in the Old town

Tips for Finding Good Local Restaurants

Here are a few tips for finding good local restaurants in Prague:

  • Get off the beaten path. The best local restaurants are often located in side streets and away from the main tourist areas.
  • Look for places that are popular with locals. If you see a lot of locals eating at a restaurant, it's a good sign that the food is good.
  • Ask your hotel concierge for recommendations. Hotel concierges are usually very knowledgeable about the local restaurant scene.
