I would take a trip to Trinidad Cuba, its a World Heritage Sight and well worth seeing. Very different from Valedero.

I stayed at the Hotel Kohly in Havana for 5 weeks. Close to lots of things. Safe. Clean rooms. Food not great but not great anywhere in Cuba (IMO). Trinidad and Cienfuegos are two spots I'd go again.
Gail
Varedero has some beautiful beaches. We stayed a Hotel arenas Doradas outside of valedero on the beach. It has everything we needed. The beach is spacious and lovely , staff excellent , clean , free buses to town, good entertainment at night and the food was fine, . Mostly in season vegetables and seafood and pork. It was all inclusive but can get daily rate rooms too. The expresso was great!!!
Avery
I would look into casas particulares. There are lots of good ones in varadero.

Nancy book on Cuba Junky or airbnb it is all by honesty as there is no way to pay in advance. We researched and booked on both. If you are using the bus you need to get your ticket the day before! All hosts are a weath of information and very gracious, have a wonderful trip

Planning Your Trip to Cuba: Varadero and Havana
Congratulations on choosing Cuba as your next travel destination! Varadero and Havana are two incredible places that offer a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. In this blog post, we'll share some suggestions to help you make the most of your trip.
Accommodation:
Varadero
: Varadero is known for its stunning beaches and all-inclusive resorts. Some popular options include the Iberostar Varadero, Royalton Hicacos Resort & Spa, and Memories Varadero Beach Resort. These resorts offer a wide range of amenities, including pools, restaurants, and entertainment.
Havana
: For a more authentic Cuban experience, consider staying in a casa particular (private home) in Havana's historic neighborhoods like Old Havana or Vedado. Casa particulars provide a glimpse into the lives of local Cubans and offer a more personal touch than hotels. Some recommended options include Casa Castellón 206, Casa Vedado, and Casa Jardín.
Activities and Sights:
Varadero
: Besides soaking up the sun on the gorgeous beaches, you can explore the Varadero Ecological Reserve, go deep-sea fishing, or take a catamaran tour. Don't miss the opportunity to try some water sports like snorkeling or scuba diving.
Havana
: Havana is a vibrant city with a rich history and cultural heritage. Stroll through the charming streets of Old Havana, visit museums like the Museum of the Revolution and the Museum of Fine Arts, and experience the lively music and nightlife scene. Other must-see attractions include the Plaza de la Revolución, El Morro Castle, and the Malecón seawall.
Getting Around:
The easiest way to travel between Varadero and Havana is by bus or private transfer. The journey takes approximately 2-3 hours, depending on traffic. Within each city, taxis and classic American cars are popular modes of transportation. However, be prepared to negotiate fares with taxi drivers.
We hope these suggestions help you plan an unforgettable trip to Cuba! Don't forget to embrace the laid-back Caribbean vibe, indulge in delicious Cuban cuisine, and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture. Enjoy your adventure!
