have not been on a river cruise but do not see where they would be different - Vacations to Go has a river cruises option as well (look at the upper right top of the page) http://www.vacationstogo.com - What I do know about river cruises is that they are much more all inclusive in that they include at least one tour in every port at no extra cost (anywhere from $100 to $150 US pp per tour), beer and wine are included at meals, internet is complimentary, so seem like an overall good deal - on our recent cruise beer was $6 US, wine up to $12 US per glass, soft drinks were extra, internet was $.40 to .75 cents US per min; they generally dock in the center of cities, so little time is lost in getting to the sites; many river cruises offer free bikes, if you like to get out on your own to explore; they are more intimate because you have much smaller passenger capacity; almost all rooms have outside windows/french balcony/full balcony I am currently looking at booking a river cruise in the fall as well for all the above reasons If you have flexibility, don't be too anxious to book too soon. I have been following cruise prices for about 3 years now and have found that there is usually availabilty even 2 months before a cruise is set to leave

Krista The only Spain Portugal trips are on the Douro River. Viking is the only outfit that offers 10 day cruises, but you are actually on the boat only 6 nights. Doing a Porto to Porto cruise will save you $2500 US which you can use to rent a car and do some independent travel around the area

Paulette do you mean on one of the larger ships like princess or Hilland America? Yes I think we will explore that a little more!

No that is on one of the smaller river cruiser - just change the lenth of the trip to 6 nights and lots of options pop up

Thank you, I'm looking for my mom. Her budget was $5000 including airfare- I think it's just over her budget so we may look at the bigger ships that do some of those ports. We had a Viking quote today and was $5100 - we'll see!

We just booked a viking cruise for September 2017. They were great to deal with directly. They have their own reps & their prices are quite reasonable. Also they often have flights included. Also your mom would have choice of airline to fly with.

Best Sites and Travel Agencies for River Cruises in Europe

Are you planning a river cruise in Europe this September? If so, you're in for a treat! River cruises are a wonderful way to see some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe, and there are many different itineraries to choose from.

But before you book your cruise, it's important to do your research and find the best site or travel agency for your needs. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • What's your budget? River cruises can vary in price, so it's important to set a budget before you start shopping.
  • What type of itinerary are you interested in? There are many different river cruise itineraries available, from short weekend cruises to longer cruises that span several weeks. Decide what type of itinerary is right for you before you start looking at specific cruises.
  • What amenities are important to you? Some river cruises offer more amenities than others, such as swimming pools, fitness centers, and spas. Decide what amenities are important to you before you start looking at specific cruises.

Once you've considered these factors, you can start shopping for river cruises. Here are a few of the best sites and travel agencies to book a river cruise in Europe:

  • Viking River Cruises: Viking River Cruises is one of the most popular river cruise companies in the world, and for good reason. They offer a wide variety of itineraries, from short weekend cruises to longer cruises that span several weeks. Their ships are modern and well-equipped, and their staff is friendly and helpful.
  • AmaWaterways: AmaWaterways is another popular river cruise company that offers a wide variety of itineraries. Their ships are smaller and more intimate than Viking River Cruises' ships, which some people prefer. Their staff is also very friendly and helpful.
  • Avalon Waterways: Avalon Waterways is a good option for people who are looking for a more luxurious river cruise experience. Their ships are larger and more spacious than Viking River Cruises' and AmaWaterways' ships, and they offer a wider range of amenities. Their staff is also very friendly and helpful.
  • Tauck Tours: Tauck Tours is a travel agency that specializes in river cruises. They offer a wide variety of itineraries, from short weekend cruises to longer cruises that span several weeks. Their staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, and they can help you find the perfect river cruise for your needs.

No matter which site or travel agency you choose, be sure to do your research and read reviews before you book your cruise. This will help you avoid any surprises and ensure that you have a wonderful time on your river cruise.
