We stayed at Hotel Frank by Union Square but I heard it closed after! might be replaced with something, it was a beautiful hotel in a great location!
Hendrik
fishermans warf hilton hotel..only one block from pier 39 where you can stroll and also close to buses etc..
Alli
I've stayed at the Hyatt Embarcadero and it was great. Walking distance to Union Square and Pier 39 (about 20 minutes) but cabs and streetcars are everywhere and inexpensive. San Fran is a very walkable city because it's small in terms of square footage.
Melissa
Kimpton hotels. Are amazing boutique. Hotels
Crystal
Stay central to all The activities
Jennifer
We stayed at the Radisson on Fisherman's Wharf. We really liked the location. The hotel was good too, very comfortable sleep number bed.
Nicole
the metropolitan - it's just a few blocks off haight street so you are close to lots of good stuff but not in the super touristy pier area. nothing fancy (no room service etc) but is quaint & reasonably priced. we walked to lots of areas from there and cabs aren't expensive. we also took the bus downtown.

Best Western Tuscan Inn in Fisherman's Wharf. Super helpful staff and free wine bar and snacks every evening before supper time.
Carmela
We're staying at Cavallo Point for our girls' getaway -- just over the Golden Gate Bridge http://www.cavallopoint.com/.
Bonnie
We stayed at the Rex, awesome location and cute place
Nancy
The Chancellor - close to Union Square, trolley to everything, boutique hotel
Penny
There transit system is fab, never waited more than 5 min for bus and is real easy to figure out. We sayed in Japan town at the Toyo hotel very modern. You can get map for transit from front desk of all hotels.

I went on a girls trip there a few years ago. Do a private guided wine tour! You won't regret it!
Gina
we stayed at the holiday inn down near the pier....amazing location, we walked everywhere
