Question:

Question for people who’ve gotten a passport for an infant before. Where do you go to get passport photos for the infant done? We have a 3 week old and figured Shoppers or Costco wouldn’t be able to take a photo of an infant, but I could be wrong…

Costco no longer does passport photos. I went to Staples in July for $21.99.

Go to the photo place in Canada place!
When my girl was 2 weeks old we went to Walmart and the photos were rejected when I was submitting the application. Canada place location did a great job.

Kristen agree with this! It’s already a lot of work to get passports for the family, if they reject the photos from Walmart or wherever else you will end up going here anyways! Go here first and don’t stress is my advice

Definitely do not go to Walmart. They can’t take proper passport photos, never mind for infants.

Getting Passport Photos for Infants: What You Need to Know

Securing a passport for your little one is an important step for any family planning to travel internationally. However, getting passport photos for infants can be a bit trickier than for adults. Here's what you need to know:

Where to Get Infant Passport Photos

Most big-box stores like Shoppers or Costco that offer passport photo services may not be equipped to handle infants. Their standard photo booths are designed for adults and older children, and the flashing lights or loud noises could startle or upset a newborn.

Instead, consider the following options for getting passport photos for your 3-week-old:

  • Professional Photography Studios: Many photography studios offer passport photo services, and they have experience working with infants. They can capture a neutral expression and ensure the photo meets all the requirements.
  • Dedicated Passport Photo Services: There are businesses that specialize in passport photos, and some of them have expertise in taking photos of infants and young children. They often have a setup designed specifically for this purpose.
  • Local Camera Shops: Your local camera or photo shop may offer passport photo services, and the staff might be more accustomed to handling infants than big-box stores.

Tips for Successful Infant Passport Photos

  1. Schedule for a Calm Time: Try to schedule the photo session when your baby is likely to be well-rested and fed. A calm, content infant will make for a better photo.
  2. Bring Supplies: Pack a change of clothes, a blanket, and any other items that might help soothe your baby during the session.
  3. Be Patient: Getting the perfect passport photo of an infant can take time and multiple attempts. Be prepared to wait patiently for the right moment.
  4. Follow Guidelines: Make sure you understand the specific requirements for infant passport photos, such as the baby's eyes being open and the head being centered.

With a little preparation and the right photographer, you can get the perfect passport photo for your little one and be ready for your next family adventure!
