Have you experienced flight changes on Air Canada Vancouver to Lihue route?

Question:

Has any one been booked through air canada from Vancouver to Lihue in the last few weeks? We are booked on that route for April 11th and it looks to me like they have cancelled the route because of the MAX grounding. I am wondering what alternative arrangements they made for you? I've been hearing horror stories of people being booked through Honolulu and being forced to stay extra days in Honolulu.
Flight status says that it's not cancelled, but I can't get through to AC at the moment. TIA

You need to rebook it with them. We were booked westjet and same problem, they just canceled it and we had to call and try to find something. We had direct Maui to Calgary, now isaui to Honolulu which we had to buy. Then Honolulu to Vancouver to CALGARY

They are trying to fly everyone on the older planes, but this is causing over booking issues. Some people are getting bumped, some are getting through

Hey Greg, I had a client have his canceled the day before their vacation in mid March and air canada offered to rebook them on April 11th. They chose to cancel and take the credit for future travel but I'm sure you're fine! I hope this helps:)

Our travels plans are to Kona and air canada changed our flights. We now fly through LAX now with a long lay over. Not many choices but air canada was great to deal with the change. I called in within hours of being grounded.

Just an update here as I submitted this several days ago. I spent roughly 12 hours on the phone in the last 2 days between
cheapoair Canada and air canada. Air Canada confirmed the flight was cancelled and told me there was no problem to rebook it on alternative flights, which we reviewed together and they noted on my file. They gave me a waiver code for cheapoair to change the flight. Provided the code and explained the situation to cheapoair Canada. They "attempted" to rebook it according to them and they said air canada kept rejecting the rebooking. The reason I say "attempted", is because there was no record in air canada's system that they even tried. After being given the run around by both air canada and cheapoair Canada we opted for a cash refund and booked elsewhere, for more money of course. We could have waited and been at air canada's mercy 2 or 3 days before our flight, but with 5 of us flying(1 small child), we couldn't risk it. NEVER use
cheapoair Canada - they have THE WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I was twice promised a callback which I never received. I have never had to spend so much time trying to resolve a pretty straight forward problem. air canada's hands were tied because we used an agent and they can't modify anything until 72 hours before. We rebooked with westjet, so here's hoping to smooth travels
lesson learned.

Hello, my family and I flew with westjet from Edmonton to Montreal. We left Edm on March 21st and was flying back on Sat, March 30th @ 13:30. Our flight back was just cancelled and the only available flight is on April 1st at 17:30, approx 52 hours later than our original fight. First thing I did was call our credit card company to see what my options are with regards to insurance on cancellations.

I called westjet but the agent couldn’t do anything as there are no flights available due to the 737 Max issue. Cancellations and are happening everywhere according to my credit card insurance agent

Not your flight but my son was cancelled in mexico due to max they took care of them but ended up losing a day and basically stuck at LAX for 15 hrs when it(basically in trasit for 24hrs from mex to home) was suppose to a direct flight and a 6hr straight shoot.they also lost there pre pd seat selection and had to pay for baggage

I am flying to Maui in April. Was on a Max 8. AC has separate phone line set up for those travellers affected. I got through in 10 mins. Nothing changed for us other than plane type and seat assignments. Pretty easy. I’d call AC

Greg Stupid AC. I hope you can get through to them. And not long winded at all
.

Kathryn well, I did get through, several times. They couldn't change it because it's locked until 72 hours before because I booked through an agency(contracts). Agency was saying they were trying to change it, but they weren't even trying according to AC. Most frustrating experience EVER! It was really cheapoair that dropped the ball with their blatent lying to us and terrible customer service.

Air Canada's Vancouver to Lihue Route Amid MAX Grounding

With the ongoing grounding of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, many travelers have experienced disruptions and challenges with their flights. One particular route that has been impacted is the direct flight from Vancouver to Lihue, Hawaii, operated by Air Canada.

Route Status and Alternative Arrangements

According to recent reports and experiences shared by travelers, Air Canada has not officially canceled the Vancouver to Lihue route. However, due to the MAX grounding, they have been making alternative arrangements to accommodate passengers on this route.

Some travelers have reported being rebooked through Honolulu, with an extended layover or even an overnight stay in Honolulu. This has led to frustrations, additional costs, and disruptions to travel plans, as some passengers were not adequately informed or prepared for these changes.

Traveler Experiences and Recommendations

Here are some experiences and recommendations from travelers who have been affected by the changes to the Vancouver to Lihue route:

  • Proactive Communication: Several travelers have expressed frustration with the lack of clear and timely communication from Air Canada regarding the changes to their itineraries. It's advisable to be proactive and contact Air Canada well in advance to confirm your flight details and inquire about any potential changes or alternative arrangements.
  • Flexible Travel Plans: Given the uncertainty surrounding this route, it's recommended to build flexibility into your travel plans. Consider making accommodation arrangements that can be easily adjusted or canceled if needed, and be prepared for potential delays or extended layovers.
  • Advocate for Compensation: If you experience significant disruptions or additional costs due to changes in your itinerary, don't hesitate to advocate for compensation or support from Air Canada. Many travelers have reported successful outcomes when politely pursuing compensation for additional expenses incurred.

Conclusion

While Air Canada has not officially canceled the Vancouver to Lihue route, the MAX grounding has led to alternative arrangements that may involve extended layovers or stopovers in Honolulu. It's essential to stay informed, communicate proactively with the airline, and be prepared for potential disruptions. By being flexible and advocating for your rights as a passenger, you can navigate these challenges more effectively.
